Universal Retires TapuTapu Wristbands at Volcano Bay: What It Means for Guests

Universal Orlando has officially retired its TapuTapu wristbands and virtual lines at Volcano Bay. Discover why the wearable tech is being phased out, what replaces it, and how this change will affect your next visit in 2025 and beyond.

Universal Orlando has officially confirmed that TapuTapu wristbands — the waterproof wearables used for virtual queues and interactive features at Volcano Bay — have been retired as of October 1, 2025. This change ends an eight-year run for one of Universal’s most innovative systems and marks a major shift in how guests will experience the water theme park.

If you’re planning a visit, here’s what this decision means, why it’s happening, and how you can prepare for the new experience at Volcano Bay.

What TapuTapu Was — and Why It Mattered

Tapu Tapu Volcano Bay

When Volcano Bay opened in 2017, Universal introduced TapuTapu as a signature innovation designed to eliminate long lines and make the park more interactive. The wristband was waterproof, free for every guest, and linked seamlessly to the park’s digital infrastructure.

Here’s what TapuTapu offered before its retirement:

  • TapTu Ride (Virtual Line): Guests tapped their wristband at ride totems to reserve a return time. The band would vibrate when it was time to ride, letting guests relax or enjoy other areas instead of waiting in a physical queue.

  • TapTu Play: Interactive points around the park allowed guests to activate water jets, lighting effects, or tiki-themed surprises just by tapping the band.

  • TapTu Pay: The band could be linked to a payment method in the Universal Orlando app, letting guests make cashless purchases for food, drinks, or merchandise.

  • TapTu Snap: Certain ride and photo-op stations automatically connected to your TapuTapu, uploading photos to your account.

  • Locker Access: TapuTapu served as a key to park and cabana lockers, reducing the need to carry keys or cards around the park.

The system was meant to blend convenience and creativity — and for many guests, it worked beautifully. TapuTapu quickly became a defining feature of Volcano Bay, setting it apart from other water parks.

Why Universal Is Retiring TapuTapu

Tapu Tapu Scan In

Universal has not released a detailed official statement about why TapuTapu is being retired. However, based on statements to media outlets and coverage by Inside Universal, Orlando Informer, and TouringPlans, several contributing factors are likely.

1. Technical and Maintenance Challenges

Operating a park-wide system with thousands of wearables is expensive and complex. Guests occasionally reported connectivity issues, trouble linking accounts, or wristbands falling off during slides. Maintaining the devices, sensors, and totems added ongoing costs and downtime for technical fixes.

2. Simplifying Operations

Starting October 1, 2025, Universal shifted Volcano Bay to traditional standby queues. Instead of reserving return times, guests now simply join the physical line for each attraction.

While this seems like a step backward, it simplifies crowd management and reduces the risk of glitches that can disrupt the guest experience. For many visitors, especially first-timers, the system will now feel more familiar and straightforward.

3. Preparing for Upcoming Refurbishments

Volcano Bay is scheduled for an extended closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 for routine maintenance and refurbishment. The timing suggests Universal might be using this transition period to reevaluate or redesign certain systems — possibly introducing new app-based or touchless technologies in the future.

4. Guest Feedback

Although TapuTapu was innovative, not all guests loved it. Some found the interface confusing, or felt limited when they could hold only one virtual line at a time. Moving to a simpler, more predictable standby model may align better with guest expectations in the long run.

What’s Changing at Volcano Bay

With TapuTapu gone, several core features of Volcano Bay are evolving. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect if you’re visiting after October 1, 2025.

A. Standby Queues Replace Virtual Lines

Wait Times Volcano Bay

Guests now access each attraction directly — no reservations, no return windows. You’ll simply wait in a physical line. This change eliminates the “wait while you play” freedom TapuTapu offered but ensures more transparency in wait times.

B. Interactive Features Still Exist — Without the Band

Many of the playful TapTu Play elements remain, but now guests activate them manually. Buttons or sensors near those locations trigger effects like water sprays or tiki animations, preserving the fun without the wearable tech.

C. Locker Access Is Being Simplified

Universal has reworked locker access for the post-TapuTapu era. Guests now rent lockers using kiosks or attendants, and access methods vary by location. Universal has not detailed whether any replacement bands or codes will be issued; for now, expect a standard digital or physical locker process similar to other water parks.

D. Cashless Payments Move to Mobile and Card

Apple Pay

TapTu Pay has been discontinued. Guests can now use credit cards, mobile wallets, or Universal’s official app for payments throughout the park.

E. Photo Collection Now Manual

Ride and on-site photos can still be captured, but guests must scan or link them manually to their Universal account or Photo Connect card. Automatic uploads via TapuTapu are no longer available.

Pros and Cons of the Change

Removing TapuTapu brings both benefits and drawbacks for guests and operators.

OhYah and Ohno

Pros

  1. Smoother Operations:
Without thousands of devices to maintain and sync, park operations become less complex and more reliable.

  2. Lower Maintenance Costs:
Universal no longer needs to repair or replace wearable hardware or maintain specialized network equipment.

  3. Predictable Queues:
Standby lines allow for more traditional crowd flow and better capacity forecasting during peak days.

  4. Opportunity for Future Tech:
By retiring an aging proprietary system, Universal frees itself to develop new, app-based queue tools or next-generation wearable tech.

    Cons

Kala and Ta nui Serpentine Body Slide
  1. Loss of Convenience:
Guests lose the ability to “wait virtually” and explore the park between rides — one of Volcano Bay’s biggest perks.

  2. Potentially Longer Waits:
Without virtual queuing, guests may spend more time standing in physical lines during busy periods.

  3. Reduced “Wow Factor”:
TapuTapu was an experiential differentiator. Its removal could make Volcano Bay feel more like a conventional water park.

  4. Guest Confusion During Transition:
Regular visitors who expect TapuTapu might be surprised or frustrated to find it gone, especially early in the changeover period.

How to Plan Your Visit Now

Volcano Bay Tickets

If you’re visiting Volcano Bay after October 2025, these strategies will help you make the most of your day:

  1. Arrive Early:
The first two hours after opening typically have the shortest waits. Head straight for headliners like Krakatau Aqua Coaster or Ko’okiri Body Plunge.

  2. Check the Universal Orlando App:
Even without TapuTapu, the Universal app lists live wait times, show schedules, and park maps — all critical for smart navigation.

  3. Use Mobile Pay or Bring a Waterproof Wallet:
Since TapTu Pay is gone, set up Apple Pay, Google Pay, or carry a waterproof lanyard wallet for convenience.

  4. Plan Breaks Strategically:
Without virtual queues, take breaks during midday peaks (usually 11 a.m.–3 p.m.) when waits are longest.

  5. Consider Staying On-Site:
Guests at Universal’s on-site hotels get early park admission, which is especially valuable now that everyone joins standby lines.

  6. Stay Informed:
Universal may test or introduce new digital queue tools before or after the 2026-2027 refurbishment. Keep an eye on official announcements.

Why This Change Might Actually Be a Smart Move

Volcano Bay

While some fans are understandably disappointed, there are several reasons this move may make long-term sense:

  • Reliability Over Novelty:
TapuTapu was ambitious but occasionally buggy. A simpler model reduces tech headaches and guest complaints.

  • Operational Reset Before Epic Universe Opens (2025):
With Universal’s new park, Epic Universe, debuting in 2025, streamlining operations at existing parks helps focus attention and resources on the expansion.

  • Flexibility for Future Systems:
Removing TapuTapu clears the way for Universal to experiment with mobile-based queue systems similar to Disney’s Genie+ or to adopt more modern wearable technology later.

    The Future of Volcano Bay

Volcano Bay Wave Pool

Volcano Bay’s planned closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 is officially described as a seasonal refurbishment — standard for water parks, but the longest in Volcano Bay’s history. No new attractions have been announced yet, but the extended downtime could signal broader updates to park infrastructure or systems.

Given Universal’s track record of innovation, it’s reasonable to expect that TapuTapu’s retirement isn’t the end of technological enhancements — just a reset before something more advanced arrives.

Final Thoughts

The end of TapuTapu marks the close of an era for Volcano Bay. For years, the little waterproof wristband represented the cutting edge of theme-park design — a promise that technology could replace waiting with freedom.

Now, Universal is pivoting toward simplicity, reliability, and preparation for the park’s next chapter. Whether you view the move as a step backward or a strategic refresh, it reflects a broader trend in theme-park operations: balancing innovation with practicality.

For guests, the takeaway is clear — Volcano Bay will still deliver its tropical thrills and immersive environment, just without the tech on your wrist.

Best Rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort offers 19th-century New England elegance and is perfectly situated in the Epcot Resort Area. This guide covers the resort's sophisticated rooms and dining, including the signature Yachtsman Steakhouse. Learn about the unrivaled convenience of walking to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and get all the details on Stormalong Bay, the massive 3-acre pool complex shared with Beach Club Resort.

Looking for the best rooms at Disney's Yacht Club Resort? Look no further! In this video, I provide insider tips and tricks to help you choose the perfect room for your magical Disney vacation. From room views to amenities, I cover everything you need to know to make the most of your stay at this Disney Deluxe resort. Don't book your room before watching this guide!

Disney's Yacht Club Resort Balconies

Stay tuned for all the details on the best rooms at Disney's Yacht Club Resort!

Disney’s Yacht Club is the sister resort to Disney’s Beach Club Resort - in fact, they are both part of the same building. One the east side of the resort complex is the Beach Club, the west side is the Yacht Club. Both resorts have separate check-in areas but they share the same amenities. Rooms are nearly identical in size and have similar floorplans.

I encourage you to watch the video below, I include detailed maps of the resort:

Yacht Club is a little more sophisticated than Beach. sister.  It has more upscale dining, the lobby is darker with warm wood accents, and houses a collection of nautical decor. It resembles the elite Yacht Club s found throughout New England. But make no mistake, this is Disney, so it still feels casual. Now,  Beach Club is brighter, and more casual - almost as if you were staying at a family beach house, and it’s just a little closer to Epcot. Yacht club is a little closer to Hollywood Studios.

Quick-service dining at this hotel can be found at the Ale and Compass Market - which has a better layout than Beach Club and a better menu. You;ll find mostly hot and cold sandwiches like a ham, egg, and cheese on a pretzel roll for breakfast and a turkey and bree sandwich for lunch and dinner, just to name a few.

One of the best features of Yacht Club is Stormaling Bay, which is a min-water park right behind the hotel. Stormalong Bay  is shared with Beach Club but with 750,000 gallons of water, it’s big enough to handle the crowds. One of the most unique features of Stormalong Bay is that the bottom of the pool is covered with sand and it has one of the longest water slides of any Disney World Deluxe hotel.

disney's yacht club resort best rooms

Yacht Club is a sprawling hotel, ranging from 3-5 stories tall. Most rooms at this resort sleep 5 people with 2 queen size beds and a day bed. But there’s a critical variation that will soon be revealed.

Disney prices the 630 guest rooms based on view, Resort View and Water View.

Resort View rooms are the most economical and overlook the hotel’s driveway, roof, gardens, or woods. Rooftop views are not pretty and there are a lot of them at Yacht Club. Rooms that overlook gardens and wooded areas are of course, more desirable.

Water View at Walt Disney World means anything that is wet. Your view may be of the quiet pool (if you have a direct view of the pool), Stormalong Bay or Crescent Lake. Water View rooms that overlook Crescent Lake may also have distant views of Disney’s Boardwalk.

Resort View and water-view rooms come in a variety of configurations here.

Most will have either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds. But here’s that critical piece of information. Most rooms that have 2 queen beds also include a day bed, which is a sofa that folds flat into a twin bed. Not to be confused with a pull-out sofa. Notice I said “most rooms.” Some rooms simply have 2 queen beds without the day bed. This is important to know because if you are counting on the day bed as a separate sleeping arrangement, there’s a chance you may not get it. This could be a problem if you have 2 guests who cannot share the same bed. If you need the day bed, I like to make to this request for my clients well in advance.

Now, if you have 5 people Disney should automatically assign you a room with the daybed. Otherwise, where’s the 5th person going to sleep?

Yacht Club also has rooms with 1 king bed and just as you might automatically trigger a 5-person room with 5 people, you might also trigger a king bedroom with just 2 people. Some king rooms at Yacht Club also come with a Day bed, but some do not! If I have clients who do not want a king bed, I call the hotel to let them know in advance. If you need help with any of this be sure to contact me here.

There are also 70 Club Level rooms on the 5th floor which include access to the Regatta Lounge. Most of the Club Level rooms are standard hotel rooms, but some suites are located on other floors throughout the hotel and come with access to the lounge. The turret suites at this hotel are among the most popular at any hotel in Walt Disney World and book up far in advance. I had a chance to stay in one many years ago, and I would highly recommend it if you’re in the market for a suite.

balconies at disney's yacht club with patio

Regular rooms at this hotel have either a balcony or a patio.

So, we covered room categories, club level, balconies, and sleeping arrangements, but what about the best room locations at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort?

There’s no doubt that the best rooms with views are on the higher floors. The 4th floor is best especially if you have a water view room, you’ll likely have great views of Stormalong Bay or The Boardwalk and or Crescent Lake.

Rooms that are closer to Epcot and close to Stormalong Bay are found in the block of rooms that end in 185 through 241. And if you would like to be closer to the walking path to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, request rooms that end in 001 through 065.

Some rooms at the yacht Club might have a view of the Epcot fireworks. Keep in mind that most of the Epcot fireworks are lower to the ground so it will be difficult to see most of the show. But if you’re ok with a glimpse of a few high-flying shells, I would request odd-numbered rooms on the 3rd or 4th floors that end in 011 through 027 and 067 through 081.

Yacht Club is one long building, so if your ideal room is to be closer to transportation - being the bus, boat, or parking lot, requesting a room near the lobby would be ideal Ground floor rooms in particular. Rooms 1149 through 1163 are excellent rooms - a good mix of resort view and water view rooms.

If you want both a convenient location AND a great view, 4th-floor rooms 4149 through 4163 are best.

What about The best water-view rooms, well that could be a few different things. Remember that water view means anything with water - so Stormalong Bay Cresent Lake, or a combination. My picks are rooms 4161 and 4163- 4th floor of course. These rooms look straight to Crescent Lake and Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.

The best scenic resort view rooms are odd-numbered rooms between 4143 and 4151. They are somewhat close to the main lobby, but they also have partial views of both Crescent Lake and Stromalong Bay. So you’re getting some water views at a resort view price. But even more than that, you’re on the more scenic side of the resort - the back. The front of the resort overlooks the entrance, so there isn’t much to see on that side. Something else I like about these rooms is that they are the lobby elevator. These same rooms on floors 2 and 3 are also acceptable. Just keep in mind that these rooms are located in the heart of the resort, so there isn’t too much privacy from your balcony.

lobby at disney's yacht club resort

Now speaking of privacy, if you would rather a resort view room that is located in a quiet area, I  like rooms on the far west side of the building. These rooms overlook a wooded area and they are closer to the quiet pool and tennis courts. Even numbered rooms ending in 092  through 112 have lots of shade and almost no pedestrians walking by. So for example, rooms 4092 (4th floor), 3092 (3rd floor), and so on are all great for privacy.

What about a water-view room that’s in a quiet location? Some water view rooms overlook Stromalong Bay, and while the view is nice, you’ll definitely hear noise from the people in the pool and during the afternoon, there’s a DJ that plays music and poolside games.

So, water-view rooms that overlook Crescent Lake are going to be your most quiet options. Odd-numbered rooms on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors ending in 003 through 009 will have excellent water views and far from the noise of the pool. I didn’t select ground floor rooms however because there’s a busy walkway that runs past these rooms. And by the way, these rooms have amazing sunset views as well.

I help my clients with room requests all the time so feel free to contact me for your next Disney World vacation. Together we can come up with the perfect room request.

Room requests have a better chance of being honored if you make them within the category you booked.

For example, if you book a Resort View room and request to have a view of Crescent Lake, that request would have very little chance of being honored. This is like asking the hotel for a free upgrade. Sure you might get it, but odds are you won’t. A request for a room with a full-size balcony, overlooking woods and gardens, has a much higher chance of behind honored. You should also keep room requests as general as possible. Provide a range of room numbers rather than a specific room. Or request a room similar to a specific room. This gives the room assignor more possibilities when searching for your room. Keep in mind that room requests are not guaranteed but Disney tries hard to honor them.

Disney's Boardwalk Inn

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas is an elegant, turn-of-the-century resort located directly on the BoardWalk entertainment district. Discover the unparalleled convenience of walking to both EPCOT and the Disney Skyliner station for quick access to Hollywood Studios, plus all the dining and nightlife just steps from your room.

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn

I find Disney’s Boardwalk to be a whimsical waterfront resort with the added perk of being within walking distance to Epcot. It’s an elegant, saltwater taffy-colored hotel offering standard hotel rooms and vacation villas. It comes with all the Disney World Deluxe Resort perks but has limited casual dining options.

Disney's Beach Club Resort

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is one of the best-located Deluxe resorts, offering a charming New England theme and the incredible Stormalong Bay, a 3-acre water playground. This complete guide details the rooms that sleep up to five, the popular character dining at Cape May Cafe, and the convenience of being just a short walk to EPCOT’s World Showcase entrance, the Disney Skyliner, and a boat ride from Hollywood Studios.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort is a charming, New England-style hotel located just outside of Epcot. The pools, lagoons and spas of Stormalong Bay make this property unique. Sharing many amenities with its more formal sister, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort is within walking distance to Epcot, Disney Skyliner and a convenient boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

  • Most standard hotel rooms are 380 square feet and come with 2 queen beds and a sofa bed.

There are a handful of rooms that do not have the sofa bed.

If you need the sofa bed, let me know so I can enter a request for you. Requests are not guaranteed but Disney does try hard to honor this one in particular.

If you have a party of 5, you will almost certainly get a room with a sofa bed automatically, but I would still note it on the reservation.

Rooms have full size balconies, patios (ground level) or what I call mini-balconies. These are balconies that have just enough room for one person to stand on. If you prefer a full-size balcony or a patio, this should be entered as a request. (Requests cannot be guaranteed).

This upscale lakeside hotel is within walking distance of Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Its theme is inspired by the 19th-century yacht clubs found on the New England coastline. Disney’s Yacht Club shares a pool with Disney’s Beach Club Resort, one of the most kid-friendly resort pools on Disney World property.

How does Disney’s Yacht Club compare to Disney’s Beach Club? They are actually the same resort. One wing is Beach Club, and the other is Yacht Club. While they do have separate check-in areas, they share the same restaurants and pools.

Animal Kingdom Lodge Guide: Savanna View, Jambo House vs. Kidani & Dining

Experience the magic of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge! This comprehensive guide covers both the main resort, Jambo House, and the Disney Vacation Club section, Kidani Village. Learn which Savanna View rooms offer the best chance to see giraffe and zebra at dawn, and explore the resort's award-winning dining—from buffets at Boma to signature dishes at Jiko – The Cooking Place and Sanaa.

Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite resort hotels at Walt Disney World, offering guests an experience like no other. Prepare to be captivated by the immersive atmosphere, incredible wildlife encounters, and award-winning dining experiences.

Welcome to Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, starting with the lobby you’ll notice it’s filled with authentic museum pieces, artwork, and wood carvings.

This one-of-a-kind hotel offers a unique experience that will transport you to Africa. You will absolutely forget that you’re in Central Florida. Yes, Animal Kingdom Lodge is in a remote location on Disney World property. It is sometimes criticized in guidebooks for being far away from the parks. But that’s the point!

It needs to be relaxing and tranquil, away from Disney theming, traffic, park noise, and fireworks. Being able to escape the theme park atmosphere while on vacation is a good thing, and only Animal Kingdom Lodge does that.

What makes Animal Kingdom Lodge great

  • One-of-a-kind hotel experience

  • Close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

  • Some of the best restaurants at Walt Disney World

  • Jiko: The Cooking Place has earned state and national awards for culinary excellence

  • 11,000 Square foot pool surrounded by a wildlife savanna

  • One of the most beautiful hotels at Disney World with incredible attention to detail

  • Wildlife savanna is home to over 200 animals and birds

  • Spacious rooms ranging from standard hotel rooms to deluxe villas

  • Club Level Concierge is considered one of the best on Disney property by Disney experts

  • 1, 2, and 3-bedroom villas have kitchens, living rooms and washer/dryers

  • There are 3 main room categories

Resort View - the most economical. Offering standard views of parking areas, rooftops, and/or landscaping.

Water View - overlooks the pool area. While the pool is pretty at night especially, these rooms can be noisy. Early morning power washing of the pool furniture starts around 6 am.

Savanna View - views of the wildlife safaris.

All rooms have a private balcony with 2 chairs.

If you book a Savanna View room, I recommend waking up at dawn for at least one day on your vacation, grabbing coffee, and sitting on your balcony.

The animals are very active at dawn. You’ll see the animals playing with each other and some even calling out to other animals.

Once the sun comes up, the animals begin to chill out.

Also nearby is a pool bar, whirlpool, and a play area for little ones.

Good to know

A common misconception is that you need to get to Animal Kingdom Park early in the morning to see the animals.

But by the time Animal Kingdom Park opens, the animals are already done playing.

The best time to view the animals in the theme park is late afternoon, as the sun begins to set. But if you’re staying at the Lodge, pre-dawn is the absolute best time.

Standard rooms at Animal Kingdom Lodge have 2 queen beds and sleep up to 4 people.

Most other Deluxe Resorts at Disney World can sleep up to 5 guests so Animal Kingdom is unique in that way (Disney’s Wilderness Lodge too).

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort Review: The Best Moderate for Families of 5?

Sprawling, tropical, and strategically located—Caribbean Beach is the only Moderate resort that lets you fly to the parks. But is the "Poor Man's Polynesian" worth the extra walking? We break down the logistics, the 5th sleeper rooms, and the best rolls on property.

If you’ve been following the channel for a while, you know I have a complicated relationship with Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. On one hand, it is the most lush, tropical, and arguably the most beautiful Moderate resort on property. On the other hand, it is so massive that it actually has its own internal bus system.

Best Rooms at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort - Best Rooms

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

When people ask me if they should choose Caribbean Beach over a Value resort like Pop Century, I always tell them: "It depends on how much you value your hamstrings." This resort is a sprawling tropical paradise that requires a strategy. In this review, we’re diving into why this resort is the "Skyliner Hub" of the world and whether its recent "Under the Sea" room makeover is enough to keep it at the top of the Moderate tier.

The Vibe: Lush, Tropical, and Sprawling

Caribbean Beach is designed as a series of six villages—Trinidad, Barbados, Martinique, Aruba, and Jamaica—arranged around the 45-acre Barefoot Bay. The landscaping here is mature and stunning. It genuinely feels like a tropical escape, far removed from the neon and concrete of the All-Stars.

However, the "resort" feel comes with a price: distance. Walking from the furthest rooms in Trinidad to the main lobby at Old Port Royale can take 15 minutes. If you’re visiting in the peak of the Florida summer, that 15-minute walk feels like a trek across the Sahara.

The Strategy: If you want to be near the food and the main pool, you want a Preferred Room in Martinique or Barbados. If you want to be near the Skyliner, aim for Jamaica or Aruba.

The Skyliner: The Hub of the Universe

The single biggest reason to stay at Caribbean Beach is the Disney Skyliner. This resort is the central hub for the entire system.

  • The Advantage: Unlike Art of Animation or Pop Century guests who have to transfer at Caribbean Beach to get to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, guests here can hop directly onto their destination line.

  • The "International Gateway" Perk: Taking the Skyliner to EPCOT drops you at the International Gateway (between the UK and France). This is a massive "Park Warrior" hack because it puts you much closer to Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After than the main gate guests.

The Downside: The Skyliner closes for lightning. In Florida, lightning is a daily occurrence in the summer. When the "gondolas in the sky" stop moving, everyone rushes to the buses, and that is when the Caribbean Beach logistics start to crumble. Always have a backup plan (or a Lyft app) ready.

The Room Revolution: From Pirates to Princesses

For years, the Trinidad section of this resort was home to the "Pirate Rooms." They were kitschy, had thin mattresses shaped like boats, and were notoriously far from everything.

Those are gone. In their place are the new "Under the Sea" 5th Sleeper rooms.

  • The Design: Inspired by The Little Mermaid, these rooms are bright, airy, and utilize the same Queen Murphy Bed system we love in the Value resorts.

  • The "DVC-Lite" Feel: These rooms feel remarkably similar to the studios at the neighboring Riviera Resort, but at a fraction of the cost.

  • The 5th Sleeper: Most rooms at Caribbean Beach now feature a small pull-down bunk (perfect for a child under 5' tall). This makes it one of the few Moderate options for a family of five.

SEO Keyword Alert: If you’re looking for the best Moderate resort for families of 5, Caribbean Beach is consistently at the top of the list because of this extra bed.

Dining: Sebastian’s Bistro and the "Riviera Hack"

Dining is where Caribbean Beach truly punches above its weight class.

Sebastian’s Bistro

I’m going to make a bold claim: Sebastian’s Bistro is the best-kept secret in Disney dining. It is a family-style, "all-you-care-to-enjoy" meal that features pull-apart rolls with guava butter that I would honestly move into the resort for. It’s significantly cheaper than 'Ohana at the Polynesian and, in my opinion, just as good.

The Riviera Hack

Because Caribbean Beach is literally adjacent to Disney’s Riviera Resort, you have access to some of the best high-end dining on property. You can walk (or take a quick Skyliner hop) to Topolino’s Terrace for a character breakfast or grab a sophisticated lunch at Primo Piatto. You get Deluxe-tier dining with Moderate-tier room prices.

The Pool: Fuentes del Morro

If your kids like "playing pirate," this is the best pool in the Moderate category. It’s themed like a Spanish fort, complete with water cannons and two waterslides. It is essentially a mini-water park.

For the adults, Banana Cabana (the poolside bar) is one of the best spots on property to grab a cocktail and watch the Skyliner glide by. It has a legitimate "vacation" vibe that makes you forget you’re three miles away from a giant spinning teacup.

Pros and Cons: The Brutal Truth

The Pros

  • Skyliner Hub: Unrivaled access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

  • Dining Diversity: Access to both Caribbean-style food and the high-end options at the Riviera.

  • The "Under the Sea" Rooms: Modern, clean, and great for families of five.

  • The Atmosphere: The most immersive tropical theming outside of the Deluxe tier.

The Cons

  • Size: It is physically exhausting to navigate if you don't have a car.

  • Internal Bus Loop: If the Skyliner is down, the bus system can be slow and frustrating.

  • Noise: Like all Moderates, the rooms have exterior entries, meaning you hear everything happening on the walkways.

  • Price: It is often significantly more expensive than Pop Century, despite having similar (though slightly larger) rooms.

Final Verdict: Is It Worth It?

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is perfect for the traveler who wants the "Resort Life" without the "Deluxe Price." If you plan on taking mid-day breaks and want to enjoy the pool and the dining, it is a fantastic choice.

However, if you are a budget-focused Park Warrior who only cares about the Skyliner, you might be better off saving the money and staying at Pop Century. But for me? The guava butter at Sebastian’s Bistro and the direct Skyliner line to Hollywood Studios make Caribbean Beach a "must-stay" at least once.

Haunted Mansion Hotel Room at Walt Disney World?

The Haunted Mansion - Walt Disney World

Glowing footprints appearing on the ceiling, “Floating” Doom Buggy beds, A sliding bookcase / hidden passage to the bathroom, ghostly apparitions appearing in the mirrors to “follow you home” and of course the infamous Haunted Mansion wallpaper on the bed linens. These were all part of an idea that was being kicked around at Walt Disney World Imagineering back in 2010 but the idea never came to be.

Haunted Mansion Room Concept for Walt Disney World Resort 2010

Haunted Mansion Room Concept for Walt Disney World 2010

The idea was brilliant: take the rooms furthest away from the lobby (the least desirable rooms) at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and give them a magical makeover with a special Disney theme. Port Orleans. Riverside would be the perfect hotel, given that Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion is located in New Orleans Square. And of course, Caribbean Beach would be perfect for Pirates of the Caribbean, which of course did come to fruition.

A survey had been sent out to some guests asking about what type of themed rooms they would like to see at Walt Disney World. Options included a Pirates of the Caribbean room, a Disney Princess room, a health and wellness room, and one based on The Haunted Mansion.

Concept drawing of the proposed Pirates of the Caribbean themed room at Walt Disney World

Actual pirate themed room at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort - Walt Disney World

Too bad the Haunted Mansion concept didn’t win out because there were so many creative ideas in the works. I think the Imagineers would have really had fun designing these rooms, more so than the Royal Rooms that we have now. They’re pretty neat too, though. Another nail in the coffin to the Haunted Mansion rooms is that they might not have appealed to all audiences. Can you imagine trying to get a toddler to go to sleep with ghosts waving at him in the mirror?

But they say no good idea ever goes away at Disney, so maybe we will see a version of these rooms return in the future.

What do you think? Would you want to stay in a room themed to The Haunted Mansion?

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort: Where You'll Find the Resort View Rooms

Resort View rooms are the most economical choice at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This guide reveals the best longhouses—like Rarotonga and Niue—for maximizing convenience and minimizing walking, as they are close to the Great Ceremonial House and Monorail. Learn which rooms to request for the best view and proximity to the pool and boat transportation.

Resort View rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are the most economical and can be found throughout the resort. Some offer more privacy while others offer a convenient location. Let’s take a look at where you’ll find the best Resort View rooms based on what’s more important to you.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

If you’re looking to make a room request at this resort, it’s important to make your request within the category you booked. For example, if you booked a Resort View room but request a view of Cinderella Castle, chances are Disney isn’t going to honor that. Rooms that overlook the Castle cost more.

But a request for a room close to the Great Ceremonial House would have a much higher chance of being honored because there are a number of Resort View rooms in that area.

The following Polynesian Resort longhouses offer Resort View rooms.  Ground floor rooms have patios and third floor rooms have balconies.  Second-floor rooms in these longhouses do not have balconies.

Map of DIsney's Polynesian Village Resort

Tuvalo
Great choice for privacy but limited on view. These Resort View rooms overlook the Fiji longhouse.

Fiji
Close to the Great Ceremonial House (lobby) and close to boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom. But it's far from the Epcot monorail line at the Ticket and Transportation Center. Resort View rooms in this Fiji have some of the best views at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.

Aotearoa
Ideal if you love to see the monorail pass by your room, not ideal if you want privacy on your balcony. Some Resort View rooms in Aotearoa offer a partial view of the Seven Seas Lagoon: request rooms 3223, 3225 .or similar. If you plan to walk to the Epcot monorail station at the Ticket and Transportation Center, you'll have a 10-15 minute walk.

Raratonga
This is one of the most requested longhouses because it's right in the heart of the resort. It's just steps away from the Great Ceremonial House and Disney transportation. Both pools and the laundry room are nearby too. Walking to the Epcot monorail line is reasonable - about 10 minutes. If your room is on the south side of the longhouse you might be able to see the monorail pass by through the trees.

Niue
Compared to the other longhouses Niue is tiny and has only two floors. Second floor rooms do not have balconies. Niue is right in between both pools and close to the Great Ceremonial house. This is a very popular longhouse and it’s difficult to get a room here, even with a request. When making a room request for this longhouse, have your travel agent make a backup request just in case.

Samoa
Like Niue, it's right in the middle of both pools. Ground floor rooms on the west side of the longhouse have convenient access to the pool - many guests will come and go right from their slider and patio. But it's a busy location so privacy limited here.

I help my clients with room requests all the time so feel free to contact me for your next Disney World vacation. Together we can come up with the perfect room request.

Riding the Brightline Train from Orlando: A Complete Guide for Florida Travelers

Discover what it’s like to ride Brightline from Orlando to Aventura. From Premium Lounges to high-speed comfort, this is Florida travel reimagined. Watch my full journey on YouTube!

A New Way to Travel in Florida

If you’re planning a Florida vacation, you’ve probably already thought about flights, rental cars, and even driving yourself around the state. But what if I told you there’s a high-speed train that makes travel between Orlando and South Florida not only easier—but way more enjoyable?

A Brightline train arrives for the afternoon run to Orlando

A northbound Brightline train arrives at Aventura for an afternoon run to Orlando.

That’s exactly what Brightline offers. This sleek, modern train service connects Orlando with cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura, reaching speeds up to 125 mph. For family vacationers, Orlando travelers, and anyone who loves theme parks and cruises, Brightline is quickly becoming one of the best ways to get around Florida.

I recently took the Brightline from Orlando to Aventura, and I filmed the entire experience so you can see exactly what it’s like. Spoiler alert: it feels less like a train ride and more like flying business class on the ground. You can watch my full journey here 👇

👉 Watch the full Brightline Orlando to Aventura experience on YouTube

🏟️ Starting at the Brightline Orlando Station

My trip began at the brand-new Brightline Orlando Station, located at Orlando International Airport. If you’re flying into Orlando for a Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation, this is incredibly convenient—you can land, grab your luggage, and head straight for the train without ever stepping outside.

The station itself feels more like an airport terminal than a train station. It’s spacious, modern, and built with travelers in mind. There’s plenty of seating, a check-in process that’s smooth and easy, and if you’ve booked Premium Class, you’ll have access to the Premium Lounge, which is a game-changer.

🍷 Inside the Brightline Premium Lounge

Brightline has two ticket options: Smart Class (their standard option) and Premium Class, which offers a more elevated travel experience. Since I wanted to see what all the hype was about, I opted for Premium.

Breakfast buffet at the Brightline Premium Lounge Orlando

Breakfast offerings at the Premium Lounge at the Brightline Orlando Train Station

The Premium Lounge in Orlando was impressive. Comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and drinks (yes, even wine and beer), and a quiet place to relax before boarding. If you’re traveling with kids, it’s also a lifesaver because it gives everyone space to decompress before hopping on the train.

This lounge alone already had me feeling like I was about to fly, not take a train.

🚄 All Aboard: The Brightline Train Experience

When it was time to board, the process was simple. Premium passengers board first, and the staff made everything easy. Walking into the Premium car, the first thing I noticed was how spacious and comfortable the seating was compared to what you might expect from a traditional train.

  • Seats: Wide, cushioned, and designed for comfort

  • Legroom: Plenty of space, even if you’re tall

  • Service: Complimentary drinks and snacks brought right to your seat

  • Wi-Fi and Outlets: Perfect for staying connected or charging devices

Brightline markets itself as a “different kind of train experience,” and they’re not kidding. Traveling at 125 mph while sipping a complimentary drink and stretching out in a comfy seat felt worlds away from the cramped flights and long car rides I’ve taken in Florida before.

📍 Arriving at Aventura Station

After a smooth ride, I arrived at Aventura Station, which is another beautifully designed stop along Brightline’s route. The station sits conveniently near Aventura Mall, one of the largest malls in Florida, and it’s a great jumping-off point if you’re planning to continue into Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

Aventura Station | Brightline

For my trip, I explored some of the local attractions around Aventura, including food spots and shopping. This is one of the perks of Brightline—it doesn’t just drop you off in a random spot; stations are strategically placed near major hubs.

👨‍👩‍👧 Why Brightline is Perfect for Orlando Family Vacations

If you’re visiting Orlando for Disney World, Universal Orlando, or even a cruise out of Port Canaveral, Brightline adds a new option for extending your trip. Here’s why I think it’s perfect for families and vacationers:

  • No Rental Cars Needed – Skip the hassle of driving on I-95.

  • Stress-Free Travel – No long TSA lines like the airport.

  • Comfort for Kids – Spacious seating, Wi-Fi, and the ability to move around.

  • Easy Connections – Arrive in Orlando, hop on Brightline, and head straight to South Florida.

It’s also worth mentioning that for grandparents or extended family joining you in Florida, this is a safe and easy way for them to travel, too.

🎥 See the Full Journey on YouTube

I can tell you all about Brightline, but the truth is—you really need to see it to believe it. From the station in Orlando to the Premium Lounge, to the 125-mph ride itself, I captured it all in my video.

If you’re planning a Florida trip, whether for theme parks, a cruise, or just to explore, Brightline might be the most enjoyable way to get around. I know I’ll be taking it again.

📝 Final Thoughts

Brightline is more than just a train. It’s a new way to experience Florida travel that’s faster, more comfortable, and, honestly, a lot more fun than I expected. For Orlando travelers, family vacationers, or anyone curious about theme park getaways, Brightline is a fantastic addition to your trip.

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas: A First Look at the Newest Icon Class Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas is here, and it’s redefining cruising. Join me as I explore this next-generation Icon Class ship in a full tour and review, including CocoCay, onboard dining, and can’t-miss activities.

There’s nothing quite like stepping up to Port Canaveral and seeing Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas for the first time. Towering above the terminal, this next-generation Icon Class cruise ship feels more like a floating city than a vacation vessel. If you’ve been wondering what makes this ship such a big deal, I’ve got you covered.

Star of the Seas Ship by Royal Caribbean

I just released a full video tour and vlog of Star of the Seas over on my YouTube channel, where I take you through embarkation day, staterooms, dining, onboard activities, and our stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay. You can watch the full cinematic video here:

🎥 Watch on YouTube →

But first, let’s talk about what makes Star of the Seas such a groundbreaking ship for Royal Caribbean fans, families, and cruise lovers alike.

A New Era for Icon Class Ships

Star of the Seas is the second ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, following the debut of Icon of the Seas in 2024. She’s been designed to take cruising to the next level, with:

  • Eight unique neighborhoods offering everything from family splash zones to peaceful adult retreats,

  • The largest water park at sea,

  • The first-ever AquaDome, a glass-enclosed entertainment space with ocean views,

  • Dozens of dining options, including casual spots like the Pearl Café and upscale venues like Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen,

  • Thrills like the Crown’s Edge skywalk, FlowRider surf simulators, and towering waterslides.

This isn’t just a cruise ship—it’s a theme park, a resort, and a luxury getaway rolled into one.

What to Expect Onboard

When you step onto Star of the Seas, one of the first things you’ll notice is The Pearl—a massive, spherical centerpiece on the Royal Promenade that sets the tone for this futuristic ship. From there, you can explore:

  • Central Park, an open-air oasis lined with real trees and specialty dining.

  • Thrill Island, home to towering waterslides and the iconic Crown’s Edge ropes course.

  • Surfside, a neighborhood designed for families with kids, offering splash pads, casual dining, and fun for all ages.

  • The Aquadome, a multi-use venue that hosts jaw-dropping shows like Torque.

Every corner of the ship is designed to create a “choose your own adventure” vibe, whether you’re looking for non-stop action or a quiet spot to sip a cocktail.

Our Cruise Experience Highlights

During our sailing, we packed a lot into five days:

  • Breakfasts in Central Park Café with fresh fruit and made-to-order egg sandwiches,

  • Relaxing pool time and FlowRider surfing with minimal crowds,

  • A stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, where we spent hours at the Oasis Lagoon pool and sampled the famous Snack Shack chicken sandwiches,

  • An evening watching Back to the Future: The Musical in the Royal Theater—Broadway-quality entertainment at sea,

  • A behind-the-scenes moment when the ship briefly lost power (don’t worry, backup systems kicked in instantly),

  • Shopping on the Royal Promenade and exploring all the neighborhoods,

  • Even some pickleball on the top deck with other guests!

The best part? There was always something new to see, and even five days wasn’t enough to experience everything this ship has to offer.

Why You Should Watch the Video

Photos and blog posts can only capture so much of Star of the Seas. In my YouTube video, I take you through the entire experience—from embarkation to disembarkation—with cinematic footage that shows off every detail. If you’re planning a future sailing or just love cruise content, you won’t want to miss it.

10. Adventure Ocean & Social020

Adventure Ocean is Star of the Seas’ supervised kids’ club, designed like a summer camp at sea. The staff is energetic and engaging, keeping kids entertained while parents enjoy some downtime.

For older kids and teens, Social020 provides a safe space to make friends and enjoy activities designed just for them, like dance parties and sports tournaments. My tip? Encourage your teen to go on the first night—it’s when icebreaker games and introductions happen.

9. Surfside

Surfside is the ultimate family neighborhood on board. This kid-focused zone has:

  • Playscape: A colorful climbing and play area.

  • Splashaway Bay: A splash pad with slides and drench buckets.

  • Baby Bay: A safe splash zone for toddlers.

  • Water’s Edge Pool: A family pool with ocean views.

  • Arcade: Classic games (set a spending limit in advance!).

It’s the perfect home base for families, with everything close enough to keep an eye on your kids while you relax.

8. Kid-Friendly Food

Star of the Seas is a foodie paradise—even for picky eaters. Kids will love:

  • Sorrento’s Pizza – My go-to spot for a quick slice.

  • Surfside Eatery – A buffet designed for families.

  • Crème de la Crêpes – Sweet and savory crepes.

  • Base Camp – Deck 16’s quick-serve comfort food.

  • Surfside Ice Cream – Scoops and soft serve all day.

Everything is easy to access, making mealtimes stress-free.

7. Thrill Island: Rock Climbing & Mini Golf

On Deck 16, Thrill Island combines action and adventure.

  • Adrenaline Peak: A rock climbing wall with routes for every skill level.

  • Lost Dunes Mini Golf: A beautifully themed course with ocean views.

6. Perfect Day at CocoCay

Every Star of the Seas itinerary includes a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamian island. Families can enjoy:

  • Oasis Lagoon Pool: The largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean.

  • Harbor Beach: Calm, shallow waters for little ones.

  • Thrill Waterpark: Record-breaking slides (extra charge applies).

  • Splashaway Bay: A safe splash zone for kids.

🎥 I have a full Perfect Day at CocoCay guide in another video here.

5. Sports Courts

The full-size basketball court is perfect for one-on-one games or pickup matches, and there’s also soccer, dodgeball, and pickleball. Check the Royal app for tournament schedules and family activities.

4. The Family Pool & Category 6 Waterpark

Deck 15’s Family Pool offers in-water loungers, lifeguards, and easy access to the Lime & Coconut bar and El Loco Fresh.

For thrill-seekers, Category 6 is the largest waterpark at sea, with record-breaking slides like Frightening Bolt and Pressure Drop, plus two raft slides for the whole family.

3. AquaTheater Show – Torque

Torque is a high-energy, action-packed show in a massive aquatic theater. It’s filled with stunts, diving, and acrobatics—perfect for kids who don’t love traditional stage shows.

2. Absolute Zero: Laser Tag & Ice Skating

Absolute Zero offers two family favorites:

  • Laser Tag: A massive arena with futuristic themes. Book early in the Royal app—it fills up fast!

  • Open Ice Skating: Bring pants and arrive early for skate rentals.

1. Crown’s Edge

Crown’s Edge is the ultimate thrill: a skywalk and ropes course 154 feet above the ocean that ends with a surprise drop! This heart-pounding experience is perfect for brave kids (and parents) looking for an unforgettable story.

There’s so much to explore aboard Star of the Seas that you’ll never run out of things to do. For an even deeper dive, check out my full Star of the Seas YouTube playlist below!
