Video Update on TRON Attraction Coming to Magic Kingdom Park
The steel columns are going up at the site of the new TRON attraction. These columns will support the coaster’s track in Tomorrowland. Recently, Disney shared with me a special look at the columns and the progress Walt Disney Imagineers, Disney cast members and project teams have made in the past 12 months.
TRON is on track to open by October, 2021 for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
Work on Tron Coaster Has Begun but Brings These Closures
On my last trip to Magic Kingdom it was clear that work has begun on the new Tron-themed coaster in Tomorrowland. This new ride is going just to the left of Space Mountain. Also, Disney has erected a new Tron-themed billboard that’s now visible from Storybook Circus.
Ride Closures
Due to the construction of Tron, Disney has announced two new ride closures:
The Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily close beginning in December 2018. A reopening date has not been announced.
The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019, as the track is adjusted. It will reopen as the same attraction in the summer of 2019. Personally, I'd love to see a total redesign of this attraction as well.

New Coaster for Magic Kingdom Park
Disney announced that a new Tron attraction will sit in an entirely new area right next to the Space Mountain attraction at Magic Kingdom Park.
The TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction at Shanghai Disneyland is a coaster-style attraction where riders will board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles. It offers access into the energy, lights and excitement of TRON’s high-tech universe and is one of the most thrilling adventures at any Disney park.
The Tron attraction will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
