My Top 10 Tips for the Disney Wish
Planning on a Disney Wish vacation? Here are 1o tips that will help you get more out of your cruise.
The Disney Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, sailing from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida. On my last trip, I created a list of helpful tips that will enhance your experience onboard the ship.
Disney Wish
#10 Arrive before the scheduled arrival time.
If you’re driving, arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled port arrival time. There are a lot of cars waiting to drop off their luggage and park in the garage.
It’s important to point out that you shouldn’t arrive too early, you will not be able to check in until your confirmed arrival time.
#9 Learn the elevator system
The Disney Wish is wonderful, but something went askew when they were designing the elevators on this ship.
Only some of the elevators go beyond Deck 11, they’re marked with a sign over the door so you know how high the elevator goes, so watch for those.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to specifically call the elevators that go beyond Deck 11.
More than likely one of the elevators that don’t go above Deck 11 will come simply because there are more of them.
You’ll have to wait for the elevator doors to close, press the call button again and keep repeating this process until the right elevator arrives.
The elevators are narrow, and there are no windows. It reminds me of The Haunted Mansion, “This chamber has no windows and no doors…”
#8 No dinner buffet
Buffets on cruises go together like tacos and Tuesday but you may be surprised to learn that the Disney Wish Doesn’t offer a dinner buffet.
I actually like this because it changes the perception that cruises are all about conga lines and buffet meals.
Marceline Marketplace is open for breakfast and lunch but for dinner service, you’ll need to visit one of the excellent rotational restaurants such as Arendelle: a Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel, 1923, room service, or visit Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.
Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods is the quick-service restaurant on the Disney Wish, conveniently located near the pool.
It’s similar to a buffet because there are so many options ranging from authentic barbecue, burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders (of course), macaroni and cheese (of course), surprisingly good thin-crust pizza, and a comprehensive taco/burrito station.
“Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods” is included with your cruise fare, as is most dining on the Disney Wish.
I do recommend the rotational dining rooms, but if you’re not in the mood for a sit-down dinner, this is a great alternative.
On our cruise, we were having so much watching the movie Lilo and Stich on the pool deck that we decided to skip the formal dinner and just sample foods from the quick service options in our swimsuits.
We had the entire deck to ourselves that night and it ended up being one of our favorite experiences of the whole cruise. Those unexpected moments you have on vacation end up being the most fun.
#7 Buy your souvenirs on Day 1 or 2
On the first night, I stopped at the logo store to look for a Disney Wish t-shirt.
I saw a lot of great options but wasn’t ready to commit to any one item at that moment.
Disney Wish chocolate bars!
On Day 3 of the cruise, I returned to the store but most of the things I wanted were sold out, or not my size. Shops onboard have limited quantities of merchandise for each sailing so they regulate how much they put out for sale.
You can own a piece of the steel used to build the Disney Wish.
On Royal Caribbean, it’s best to wait until the last night of your cruise to buy merchandise because the logo store will likely have a big sale, especially on t-shirts. Not so with Disney Cruise Line!

#6 Visit Hyperspace Lounge on Day 1
Hyperspace Lounge is the coveted Star Wars-themed bar onboard the Disney Wish.
Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish
It’s the one thing that everyone wants to see, so naturally, Disney Imagineers made it very small and with limited seating. Although I will give them credit for making it an intimate space rather, it does work better this way from that perspective.
If you want to get inside, go on Day 1 right as you board the ship. Most guests will be trying to find their room and the buffet.
You should also ask if there are reservations needed for Hyperspace Lounge and how you can obtain one for later in your cruise.
When I was there they were passing out reservation cards to guests.
I’m told they might not always be available, it depends on the cruise and how many people are onboard.
Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish
#5 Kids are allowed in the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge
If you have a Star Wars fan who isn’t quite old enough to bend their elbow at the bar, that’s ok!
Young Jedis are allowed inside until around 8 pm.
Visit Hook’s Barbery on Day 1 to make your appointment
Hooks Barbery is part upscale barber shop and part lounge.
Hooks Barbery | Disney Wish
This is a manly-man way to get a shave, beard trip, and/or a haircut.
The barber wanted me to spread the word that you should make your appointment on Day 1 because he does book up fast. He can seldom accommodate walk-ins.
I did notice that he had someone in the chair every time I walked by the shop.
The lounge at Hook’s Barbery opens at 5 pm and you do not need a reservation. Old Fashioneds are their specialty.
Lounge at Hook’s Barbery | Disney Wish
You’re welcome to visit the lounge whether you're having a haircut or not.
Be on the lookout for some Captain Hook references and gags on the bookshelf. You might spot a spare hook and several timepieces. There’s even a small crocodile figure.
#4 Know where to watch the fireworks
Fireworks are usually offered on Pirate Night, weather permitting. They will be off the starboard side of the Disney Wish.
However, if you’re not standing in the right spot, the AquaMouse water coaster will block most of your view.
Pirate Night on the Disney Wish
It may be tempting to party like a pirate in the middle of the top deck because that’s where all the action is.
However, you’ll have a lousy view of the fireworks from there.
Pirate Night and fireworks on the Disney Wish
I recommend standing alongside the outer railing on the starboard side or on the outer railing of the port side for a more panoramic view.
#3 Visit the bow of the ship
This is the only Disney ship that allows guests to visit the bow.
It’s a terrific experience and great for a few pictures. Don’t forget to do your best, “I’m the king of the world” impression.
Visit the bow of the Disney Wish
I recommend going at sunset. Also, be sure to turn around and wave to the crew on the bridge. They might wave back!
Views from the bow of the Disney Wish
The bow is closed at night and during windy conditions.
#2 Check out Hero Zone
This is a multipurpose activity room on Deck 12 with a basketball hoop, air hockey tables, foosball, and ping pong tables.
Hero Zone is indoors and air-conditioned.
It’s often open for free play but there are a number of planned youth activities in this space as well.
I’m grateful that Imagineers moved this indoors and provided air conditioning.
On the other Disney ships, this space is outside on the top deck - in the blazing hot sun.
My son loved Hero Zone more than the kid’s clubs and would spend hours in here shooting hoops with other kids. We had a few air hockey tournaments too.
#1 Book a Land and Sea Packages: Disney World and Disney Wish
You should never fly into Orlando the same day your cruise departs.
If you experience a flight delay or cancellation, you could miss out on the cruise. Why not arrive a few days early and visit Walt Disney World? Can you really visit Orlando and not go to Disney?
Disney even provides bus transportation from Disney World to Port Canaveral and to Orlando International Airport.
Disney Cruise Line bus service in Orlando, Florida
The Disney Wish sails on alternating 3 and 4-night cruises, so it’s easy to add on a Walt Disney World stay and make it a week-long vacay.
I help people plan Land and Sea vacations with Disney every day. I also offer my clients a generous onboard credit that can be used on upgraded experiences. Contact me now to get started.

Character Greetings Returning to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line
Soon you can hug the Disney characters again in Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line
Everyday someone sends an email asking me when they can hug Disney characters again. The wait is almost over! Character greetings are returning to Walt Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Cruise Line as early as April 18, 2022.
The official announcement was released today from the Walt Disney Company:
“As early as April 18, we will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii. Very soon, Guests will once again be able to hug Mickey Mouse, get an autograph from Mulan, and share a laugh with Goofy. We know many of you have missed these special moments, and your Disney character friends have missed you, too!
During the past two years, we’ve taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols. Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in phases throughout the spring and early summer.”

CDC No Longer Warning Travelers About Cruise Travel
CDC no longer warning travelers about risk of contracting COVID on cruise ships after 2 years
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dropped its risk assessment of cruise travel yesterday after more than two years of warning travelers against the dangers of contracting COVID-19 on a cruise.
"CDC is removing the COVID-19 Cruise Ship Travel Health Notice," said spokesperson Dave Daigle.
Travelers can now make their own risk assessment when choosing to travel on a cruise ship, much like they do in all other travel settings.

Disney Cruise Line: Disney Dream Sold Out for Summer, Fall 2022
Now is the time to book summer travel! Summer and fall Disney cruises from Port Canaveral are sold out, or out or nearly sold out. Contact me today for options.
If you have been trying to book a summer 2022 vacation you know how difficult it has been trying to find availability at popular destinations like Disney Cruise Line, Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.
Demand for summer travel is soaring right now, I haven’t worked with this many clients, who are actively booking vacations in my entire career.
To this point, all 3 and 4 night Disney Cruise Line sailings from Port Canaveral are now unavailable from from mid-June through December 2022.
3 and 4 night cruises from Port Canaveral on Disney Cruise Line are no longer available.
Recently Disney Cruise Line announced that the Disney Wish was going to be delayed by a few weeks.
Searches for cruises on the Disney Cruise Line website are returning no results from summer and fall 2022 on Port Canaveral sailings.
Now the Disney Wish will begin sailing out of Port Canaveral in mid-July 2022. More details will be announced on February 8, 2022.
This complicated an already busy cruise season as guests on the Disney Wish were given priority to rebook or to receive a Future Cruise Credit.
The future of the Disney Dream is also uncertain. It was scheduled to begin sailing out of the Miami area once the Disney Wish arrived.
Now is the best time to book a summer cruise in order to get the best prices. If you’re a seasoned cruiser you already know this.
Fortunately Royal Caribbean Cruise Line still has availability out of Port Canaveral, Florida. RCCL also offers family-centered cruise vacations, similar to Disney Cruise Line, often for a lot less.
Read more about Royal Caribbean cruises from Port Canaveral.
While I’m sure there is a lot of disappointment around this, I’d rather that Disney get it right rather than rush it. I’m sure it will be worth the wait.
But right now is the best time to book your Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas.
My clients enjoy great deals on Royal Caribbean and a generous onboard credit - to be used to almost anything you like while on your cruise.

Right now you can use the current deposit policy at Disney Cruise Line to your advantage when you add a Walt Disney World Land and Sea package to your cruise.
Yes, “Disney World Land and Sea packages” are still offered but they are now called “Disney Cruise Line Add-on Packages.” I still like to say Land and Sea (I’m old school).
You can also take advantage of select cruises currently being offered at a discount. Discount promotions from Disney Cruise Line are extremely rare, so take advantage of it while you can!
In short, here’s how the deposit hack works:
Book your Disney Cruise with me by March 11, 2022, and you’ll automatically get 50% off the required deposit.
Include a Walt Disney World room and ticket package to your Disney cruise. You can visit Walt Disney World before or after your cruise, it’s your choice.
No additional deposit will be required for the Walt Disney World portion of your vacation when booked as part of your Disney cruise. You only pay the Disney Cruise Line Deposit and you’re getting 50% off!

50% Off Disney Cruise Line Deposits
Disney Cruise Line is allowing guests to book now and pay only half of the required deposit. To use this offer, you must book your cruise by March 11, 2022.
This offer is valid on select cruises sailing between June 18, 2022 and May 31, 2023, that do not require full payment at time of booking.
Remaining balance will be due at time of final payment.
walt Disney World - Land and Sea Package
Port Canaveral is about an hour away from Disney World. Disney provides coach bus transportation for a small fee.
Many clients often book a 3 or 4 night Bahamas Cruise on the Disney Dream followed by 3 or 4 nights at Walt Disney World Resort. You’ll have 2 vacations in one week.
The normal Walt Disney World package deposit is $200. But when you book as a Disney Cruise Line add-on package, no additional deposit is required.
For over 12 years I have been helping clients plan Disney World Land and Sea packages from Florida. My clients enjoy:
The best available rates offered by Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney World.

Disney Cruise Line Approved to Build Second Cruise Terminal in South Florida
Disney Cruise Line will make Port Everglades a home port, just in time for high speed rail service between Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Disney Cruise Line will base two ships in Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades, with one ship sailing year-round starting in fall 2023 and a second seasonal ship joining in 2025.
This is a master plan finally coming to fruition: 2 new cruise ships, a second home port in South Florida, a dedicated terminal designed and operated by Disney, and a high speed rail line connecting Orlando to Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
Brightline train service connecting Miami to Orlando will begin in 2022 stopping Orlando International Airport. A station at Disney Springs as been announced as well.
Brightline Railroad is actively constructing a new rail line that will connect Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, where Port Everglades is located.
There will be two stations in Orlando: Orlando International Airport starting in 2022 and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World in the near future.
Passengers will be able to travel between both regions in under 2 hours via the high speed train.
Port Everglades
Port Everglades is a massive sea port open to cruise ships and cargo ships from around the world.
Port Everglades is the 3rd largest cruise port in the world.
Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Port Everglades is ranked third among cruise ports worldwide and has more homeported cruise ships than any other port.
Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Princess and Ritz Carlton Yachts also call Port Everglades home.
Disney said that adding Port Everglades as a second Florida homeport gives it a foothold in a market with one of the nation's fastest-growing airports, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Disney has a custom-designed terminal at Port Canaveral, a cruise port that is a gateway to Walt Disney World in Orlando.
The Disney Wish will sail from Port Canaveral when it enters service next summer and the Disney Dream is expected to begin sailing from Port Everglades in 2023.

Disney Cruise Line will require all Guests ages 5 and older to be fully vaccinated for sailings beginning on and after January 13, 2022.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines fully vaccinated as 14 days after receiving:

the second dose of an accepted 2-dose vaccine
the full series of an active (not placebo) COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S.-based AstraZeneca or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine trials

Back at Sea! Recap of My Post-COVID Cruise Onboard the Disney Dream
Back at sea with Disney Cruise Line! Join me as I recap my last Disney cruise onboard the Disney Dream.
Recently I had an opportunity to do a Land and Sea adventure between Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line. I specialize in helping clients plan Land and Sea vacations here in Orlando, so be sure to contact me for more information!
We began with 2 nights at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, followed by a cruise to the Bahamas onboard the Disney Dream.
Usually I like doing the cruise first because I want to have Walt Disney World to look forward to. There are advantages of doing the cruise afterwards however, like being able to relax after a touring the parks.
What follows here is a recap of my Disney cruise in a post-COVID (or nearly post-COVID) world. Aside from wearing masks indoors and social distancing, there wasn’t too much that was different.
On this trip, my son came along with me. He was not vaccinated at the time because vaccines were not yet available to 11 year olds.
Disney Cruise Line walked me through the process to show proof of vaccination.
My son had to take a COVID test 3-days prior to the cruise and show a negative test. We ordered the home-test kit from Disney for $90 and sent in the sample via overnight mail. Disney provided the overnight shipping label as part of the kit.
I tracked the entire process online, it was very easy.
Upon arriving at Port Canaveral, we all had to take a COVID test before we were even allowed to get out of the car.
We entered Level 1 of the parking garage where we were greeted by a Cast Member. She explained the testing process and directed us to an available station.
We pulled into a parking spot and a medical professional took the time to review the entire test procedure. She was very knowledgeable and made sure we were comfortable with her performing the test.
It was a light nasal swab (not the brain swab) and it took all of 5 seconds.
We were then instructed to park on Level 2 of the garage and to remain in our car. The idea is that if someone were to test positive, they wouldn’t be walking around the garage mingling with other passengers. Disney things of everything!
Results came back within 20 minutes via email. We were then able to proceed to Level 3 in the garage and exit our car. Everyone on that level has tested negative so it was safe to exit our car and head to the cruise terminal building.
Guests who arrive at the port on a Disney Cruise Line bus will follow a similar process.
If someone tests positive, Disney Cruise Line agents will work with you to make other arrangements. You won’t be left stranded at the port!
It was very reassuring to know that everyone else on board the ship tested negative for COVID and were vaccinated. i don’t know of too many places that can ensure that level of protection.
Of course this is a quick look back at our Disney Cruise. There was so much more that I didn’t get into like the Bingo tournaments, our awesome servers, the food (OMG the food!), Edge tween club, the 5K on Castaway and so much more. But I have to leave topics for my next article, so stay tuned.
Have questions about taking a Disney Cruise? Feel free to contact me . As a travel agent specializing in Disney Cruise Line, I’d be happy to help any way I can.

What Disney Cruise Line is Doing to Help You Feel Safe Onboard
My experience preparing for our Disney Cruise in a post-COVID world.
I just completed a Land and Sea trip, starting with 2 nights Disney’s Contemporary Resort for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World followed by a 4-night cruise to The Bahamas on Disney Cruise Line.
On this particular cruise aboard the Disney Dream, we started with 1 day at sea followed by a double-dip at Disney Castaway Cay.
Disney Castaway Cay
It’s great to be back at sea and although there’s some enhanced safety procedures in place, Disney made it very easy.
In the weeks prior to our cruise, Disney began sending alerts through its mobile app, breaking down the required steps into digestible bites and keeping me informed of my progress along the way.
Safe Passage and Disney Cruise Line keep you informed of your progress through the required steps.
My son, age 11, is not yet eligible to be vaccinated but he is still allowed on the cruise. He just needs 2 negative COVID tests.
I ordered a do-it-yourself PCR test from Disney Cruise Line’s partner “Safe Passage” for $95.
It’s a gentle nasal swab with simple directions. They include an envelope and an overnight shipping label.
I was able to track shipping and the results of the test online.
His test had to be taken within 3 days of sailing.
I was a little concerned because our cruise departed on Monday which meant the at-home test had to be taken and shipped on Friday.
We swabbed his nose before school and I dropped off the package at the UPS Store at 9:30 am.
Safe Passage had posted his test result online on Saturday afternoon.
Arrival at Port Canaveral.
We are Florida residents so we drove to Port Canaveral in our own vehicle along with our neighbors who were also on the same cruise!
If you’re arriving by Disney Cruise Line motorcoach or rideshare, you’ll be directed to the testing site by Disney Cruise Line staff.
Days before our cruise, Disney allowed us to select our port arrival time.
This prevents long lines and crowding at the terminal.
We arrived within our window and upon entering the parking garage, we were directed to one of several testing stations.
COVID testing is performed on the first floor of the Disney Cruise Line parking garage. Results come in about 20 minutes.
Everyone going on the cruise must be tested for COVID at this point, even if they have been vaccinated. Even my son, who was already tested at home had to be tested here once again.
There is no cost for this test, Disney Cruise Line picks up the tab.
As you might expect from Disney, everything was very organized and everyone we encountered at the testing site appeared to be very excited to see us. We felt very welcome and it was a very pleasant experience.
We remained in our vehicle and were instructed to put our masks on.
Our test provider took the time to explain how the test would be performed. We went one person at a time, and she was there to guide us through each step.
Once our swabs were collected, they were immediately sent testing.
Meanwhile, a Disney Cast Member came over with some witty jokes. He explained that we would need to move our vehicle to Level 2 and wait for the test results there.
He instructed us not to exit our vehicle so as to not come into contact with others who may have tested positive.
By keeping everyone distanced, there’s very little chance for spreading the virus here. Disney Cruise Line really thought this through.
On Level 2 we parked and had a nice view of the Disney Dream from our car. Everyone followed the rules, I didn’t see anyone out of their car.
After 20 minutes or so the email came and we were clear to board the ship.
At this time, we were instructed to park on Level 3 or above. The only people allowed on Level 3 are those who tested negative for COVID. See what they did there? Very well thought out.
The Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral.
From there we entered the terminal. Masks are required. We checked in and our boarding group had already been called, meaning we were able to board the ship immediately. Very cool!
We literally walked through the terminal, onto the gangway and onto the ship.
About to board the Disney Dream. This is the entrance to the gangway.
While there is some work involved compared to pre-COVID cruises, Disney Cruise Line really makes it easy.
There’s a lot of value in the peace of mind that you and everyone else onboard is negative for COVID.
Even my grocery store can’t guarantee that all adults have been vaccinated and that everyone has recently tested negative.
Arriving at Disney Castaway Cay
Could it be that cruise ships are actually the safest way to travel? Who would have ever thought we’d be saying that?
Now is a great time to catch a last-minute sailing or to plan your 2022 Disney cruise. View current offers here ▸

Is it safe to go on a cruise?
Since August 550,000 people have taken a cruise. No COVID outbreaks have been reported. Here’s why…
Is cruising safe?
Cruise ships are mandated to have at least a 95% vaccination rate among passengers and crew. 100% of those around you onboard have tested negative within the past 3 days.
Both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line, require all passengers age 12+ to be fully vaccinated.
I can’t think of another industry that can say that. Not even my grocery store!
Here are few facts that were recently shared with me from Royal Caribbean:
Since August of 2021, Royal Caribbean had 500,000 guests sail on its ships. And by November, over 1 million people will have taken a cruise.
There have only been 141 cases oc COVID reported onboard. Each of these cases were handled quickly and according to procedure, which obviously works.
There have been no large outbreaks on any of Royal Caribbean’s ships to date.
Is Florida Safe?
As vaccinations increase, the numbers of new cases are rapidly plummeting.
Florida’s 7-day average of new COVID cases is plummeting rapidly.
For example, on September 1, Florida’s 7-day average of new cases was 20,000 per day.
Today, September 29, the 7-day average of new cases is 5,400.
There are 22 million residents who live in Florida.

Today I’m excited to share that my website, SaveAtWDW.com, will be changing to OrlandoParksGuy.com.
