Disney Cruise Line Ends Contract with Mears Transportation
On July 1, 2023, Disney’s contract with Mears expired.
For decades Disney Cruise Line contracted with Orlando-based Mears Transportation to shuttle guests between Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando International Airport, and the cruise terminal at Port Canaveral.
Former Disney Cruise Line operated by Mears Transportation
Mears operated the Disney Cruise Line buses for over 20 years but struggled to hire sufficient drivers for both Disney Cruise Line and the defunct Magical Express, a service that provided round-trip airport transfers to Walt Disney World.
On July 1, 2023, Disney’s contract with Mears expired.
Mears began removing all Disney graphics from the buses.
The former Disney Cruise Lines buses are still in service by Mears and are currently being used for group and convention charters, Mears Connect airport shuttle, and as resort transportation at Walt Disney World during peak times.
Disney Cruise Line has now contracted with Academy Bus LLC, the largest privately owned bus company in America.
The new Academy buses will receive the same Disney Cruise Line livery as the former Mears buses.
Disney Cruise Line bus operated by Academy Bus LLC.
Guests will not experience any changes in service and fares will remain the same for the foreseeable future under Academy’s contract.
Disney World has been using Academy to shuttle College Program Cast Members to the new campus at Flamingo Crossings and to support Walt Disney World resort and theme park transportation since 2020.

Easy Guide to Disney Genie+ at Walt Disney World
Explained: What is Genie+? Lightning Lane? Plus 6 Helpful Tips for using Genie+
Genie+ gives you access to Lightning Lanes (formally FastPass) where you can skip the lines at select attractions at each of the 4 Walt Disney World theme parks.
A second, à la carte option, called Individual Lightning Lane, allows you to purchase a skip-the-line pass for some of the most popular rides without purchasing Genie+.
What is Disney Genie+?
(Available for Purchase in the Disney World mobile app)
Disney Genie+ is the name of the service that lets you use Lightning Lane entrances at select attractions. Lightning Lane is a special line that bypasses the regular (Standby) line.
(I’ll provide a link below to the attractions that offer Lightning Lane).
If you decide to purchase Genie+, you can expect to enter 2-4 attractions or experiences per day using Lightning Lane entrances.
You can hold 1 Lightning Lane reservation at a time. Once your reservation is redeemed, you will be able to make another selection using the app.
Additional perks included with Genie+
Augmented Reality Disney PhotoPass Lenses are included and can be used at all four Theme Parks. You’ll find them in the My Disney Experience app.
Disney PhotoPass Downloads from attractions. This shouldn’t be confused with regular PhotoPass. This perk refers only to the on-ride photos/video.
Audio Tales from all four Theme Parks in the My Disney Experience app. These are short fun facts about the parks that can be played from the app. This is a neat feature but it’s difficult to hear the audio while you’re in the parks.
When can I purchase Disney Genie+?
Genie+ becomes available starting at 12 a.m. (midnight) on the day of your visit.
When can I make my first Lightning Lane selection?
On the day of your visit, starting at 7 a.m.
How Much Does Genie+ Cost?
Prices vary seasonally but you can expect to pay $15 - $30 per person per day for Disney Genie+.
How to make a Lightning Lane reservation
Open the Disney World mobile app
Go to “Tip Board”
Review Lightning Lane attraction entrance times and make a selection. One Lightning Lane selection can be made at a time.
When your arrival window rolls around, use the Lightning Lane entrance. Tap your Magic Band, mobile phone, or Key to the World Card to enter.
Individual Lightning Lane Passes
(Available for Purchase in the Disney World mobile app)
For some of Disney World’s most popular attractions, Lightning Lane entry is available to purchase individually as an à la carte option. This is known as an “Individual Lightning Lane Pass.”
You can purchase individual Lightning Lane entries for up to 2 attractions per day, one at a time.
You’ll be able to choose from a list of available times displayed on the app.
This option is available with or without Disney Genie+.
(Use the link below under “Resources” to see which attractions are eligible as an à la carte option.)
When can I make my first Individual Lightning Lane purchase?
For guests staying at Disney World hotels and Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotels only:
On the day of your visit, starting at 7 a.m.
All other Guests:
On the day of your visit, starting at each Theme Park’s opening time
Lightning Lane Tip: Individual Lightning Lane passes often sell out by 10 a.m. Purchase as soon as you’re eligible to do so.
How much does an Individual Lightning Lane pass cost?
Individual Lightning Lane passes range from about $15 - $20 per person. Prices are based on season and attendance levels.
How to purchase individual Lightning Lane entry
Open the Disney World mobile app
Go to “Tip Board”
Look for the attractions labeled “Individual Lightning Lane.” Review available times and make your selection.
When your arrival window rolls around, use the Lightning Lane entrance. Tap your Magic Band, mobile phone, or Key to the World Card to enter.
Lightning Lane Resources
1 - Purchase Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane Selections as early as possible.
To get the most out of Genie+ purchase it on the mobile app before 7 a.m. so you can book your first selection as soon as the service unlocks. Time is of the essence here when it comes to booking popular attractions.
2 - Individual Lightning Lane Selections
Stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. You’ll be able to make your first Individual Lightning Lane selection at 7 a.m., ahead of the general public.
Those not staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can purchase Genie+ when the park opens.
3 - Select Popular Attractions First
When it’s time to make your first Lightning Lane selection of the day, choose one of the headliner attractions. Many will reach capacity early in the day.
4 - A Secret to Lightning Lane reservations with Genie+
Remember you can hold only 1 Lightning Lane selection at a time - but there is a secret way to hold more.
If you book a Lightning Lane selection at 7 a.m. for a return time that is more than 2 hours after the park opening, Disney Genie+ will allow you to make a second selection. The ability to make another selection will unlock 2 hours after the park opens.
For example, let’s say it’s 7 a.m. and you select Slinky Dog Dash. You get a Lightning Lane time for 1 p.m.
The park opens at 9 a.m.
You’ll be allowed to make another Lightning Lane selection at 11 a.m. (because that’s 2 hours after the park opening time). At this point, you’ll have 2 Lightning Lane selections booked.
5 - Make your next Lightning Lane selection right away
As soon as you enter Lightning Lane at your reserved attraction, immediately make your next selection. Every minute counts when it comes to making reservations.
6 - Be open to crisscrossing the park
Genie+ will sometimes recommend attractions that are nearby just because they are..nearby. But the attractions being offered might not even have a long wait.
Instead, look for headliner attractions that have a long wait and use Genie+ for those instead.
This may mean you have to return to an area of the park you already visited but waiting less in line makes it worth it.
BONUS TIP - Watch Your Phone’s Battery!
At Disney World, you’re going to be on your phone a lot. From Genie+ reservations to photos, you’re battery will likely drain faster than usual.
Make sure you have a full charge before you head into the parks.
I also recommend purchasing a portable phone charger. Disney sells Fuel Rods in the parks for $30, and they can be swapped out for fresh ones for a nominal fee, even if you purchased a Fuel Rod someplace else.
Amazon has other brands starting around $20.

Best Rooms at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside
How to find a great room at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort plus Resort Map
Looking for the best rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside? You’ve come to the right place! There are nearly 20 individual 2 and 3-story buildings that house about 2,000 rooms.
Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside are accessed via exterior corridors with exterior entry to the rooms.
Rooms at the end of each corridor have an additional side window that allows for more natural light, these are known as, “corner rooms.”
Heat and air conditioning come from a built-in unit under the window. The only moderate hotel to offer central air conditioning is Coronado Springs.
The main pool complex known as Ol’ Man Island is centrally located within the resort. You can access Ol’ Man Island by using one of three footbridges.
There are also smaller, neighborhood pools located throughout the resort.
In this guide, I’ll show you where you can find the best rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside.
Map of Disney’s Port Orleans Resort Riverside
Riverside is divided into two sections
Alligator Bayou
Magnolia Bend
Rooms in both sections have nearly identical floor plans but many rooms in Alligator Bayou have a 5th Sleeper which is a small fold-down bed ideal for children up to age 9.
See my full Port Orleans Riverside tour here ▸
Room Requests at Port Orleans Riverside
I make room requests for clients all the time but my disclaimer is that they are never guaranteed. Based on client feedback, requests are honored about 80% of the time.
Room Categories at Port Orleans Riverside
It’s important to understand the various room categories that are offered at this resort because there are quite a few to choose from. In the next section, I’ll show you where each of the room categories is located and the best rooms in each section.
Standard View - views of parking area, gardens, or woods. 2 queen beds. Most economical.
Standard View 5th Sleeper - views of parking area, gardens, or woods. 2 queen beds and a child-size pull-down bed.
Woods View - views of gardens or woods. 2 queen beds.
Woods View 5th Sleeper - views of gardens or woods. 2 queen beds and a child-size pull-down bed.
King Bed - views of garden, woods, or river. 1 king bed. Located throughout the resort, there’s no dedicated section.
River View - views of Sassagoula River. 2 queen beds or 2 queen beds and 1 child-size pull-down bed.
Preferred Room - views of garden, woods, or river. Close to dining, pool, and transportation. 2 queen beds and most have a child-size fold-down bed.
Dog-Friendly Room - Dedicated rooms for just those traveling with their dogs. Located in the Magnolia Bend section. If you do not have a dog, you will not be assigned one of these rooms.
Best Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside
Where are the Preferred rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Preferred rooms are located in Buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27. They are closest to the check-in area, the boat to Disney Springs, the bus stop for the theme parks, Ol’ Man Island pool complex, and the resort’s 2 restaurants: Riverside Mill Food Court and Boatwright’s Dining Hall.
Within the Preferred section, the closest rooms to the resort’s amenities are Buildings 14 and 15.
There’s a walkway that serves as a shortcut between Buildings 14 and 15 and the main bus stop, a terrific benefit when you’re tired!
Where are the Standard View rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Standard rooms at Port Orleans have views of landscaping, walkways, parking areas, or walkways.
This is the most economical room category.
Standard View 5th Sleeper rooms are only found in Alligator Bayou.
If you’re looking for convenience, I like Buildings 15, 16, and 17 as they are closer to the lobby and dining and they have a neighborhood pool nearby.
If you prefer a Standard View with a chance of having a view of a wooded area or manicured lawns, Buildings 80 and 85 in Magnolia Bend are great for this, but far from the lobby.
Where are the Woods View rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Woods view rooms are very similar to Standard View and cost only slightly more.
In most cases, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell Standard View and Woods View apart.
At Port Orleans Riverside, the term “woods” means anything that’s green: trees, gardens, grass, etc.
There is one major distinction, however: Woods View rooms will not have a parking area view.
5th Sleeper rooms are available in the Alligator Bayou section only.
Rooms in Alligator Bayou have a secluded feel which is perfect for those seeking privacy and quiet. Best Woods View rooms are in Buildings 26 and 39.
Where are the Pool View rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Most of the Pool View the rooms in Alligator Bayou will have the 5th Sleeper. There’s an excellent chance you’ll be assigned a 5th Sleeper room if you have 5 people in your party.
Don’t let Pool View fool you. Not one of the Pool View rooms are close to Ol’ Man Island - the feature pool complex at the resort.
At Riverside, Pool View means a view of a “quiet pool” or what I like to call “neighborhood pool.” These are smaller pools, without waterslides and entertainment, that are conveniently located around the resort.
If your goal is to be as close to the the feature pool as possible, request buildings 80 or 85 in the Magnolia Bend section, but remember there are no 5th Sleepers there.
Where are the River View Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Best Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort
The Sassagoula River runs through the middle of Port Orleans Riverside and it’s an important part of the resort’s overall story.
Yet there are very few rooms that have a true river view and so they can be hard to get.
Most rooms designated as River View will have a somewhat distant view of the river.
Building 27 contains rooms that have some of the best views.
More great views of the river can be found in the Royal Rooms section, there’s a River View category there as well.
Where are the Royal Rooms at Port Orleans Riverside?
Royal Rooms have a Disney Princess theme.
Located in Buildings 90 and 95 in Magnolia Bend, Royal Rooms come in Standard View, Woods View, Pool View, and River View.
5th Sleepers are not available in Port Orleans Royal Rooms.
While most people adore these rooms for their attention to detail, the downside is that they are far from the lobby, dining and feature pool.
When staying in this section you’ll need to decide if you would like to be closer to the bridge leading to the lobby, or the bus depot. It’s one or the other here.
Floor plan of a typical room at Port Orleans Riverside
The vast majority of rooms have 2 queen beds, a small table and 2 chairs. Across from the bed is a TV and dresser. Rooms that have 5th sleepers will have a fold-down bed instead of a dresser.
Tips for making room requests
It’s better to leave room requests as general as possible. The more general they are, the more likely they will be honored.
Requests for a room near the bus stop, a particular room or building, or “high floor” are viable requests and have a great chance of being honored.
I do not recommend requesting a room that is outside of your category. Free upgrades are highly unlikely because the resorts sell out nearly every night at Walt Disney World.
Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is located near Epcot and Disney Springs. It’s the closest Moderate resort to Magic Kingdom.
Room Amenities
Complimentary internet
Housekeeping every other day
Designated dog-friendly rooms
Mini fridge
Hairdryer
Coffee maker
Small table and 2 chairs
Club Level
Club level rooms are not offered at Port Orleans Riverside.

I went on Epcot's Behind the Seeds Tour (and it wasn't boring)
Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot Review
I love Living with the Land at Epcot. Going through the hydroponic gardens is interesting to me and I’m not even into plants. But I never gave much thought to the Behind the Seeds Tour. You may have seen the tour desk at the exit of the boat ride through Epcot’s greenhouses.
Recently my family took me on Behind the Seeds for Father’s Day. It was more fun than I would have thought!
The tour isn’t free but it’s on the more reasonable side for Walt Disney World extras. The Behind the Seeds Tour is $35 per person and it can be booked in advance on the Disney World website.
If you’re a client of mine, I can book the tour for you as well.
Here are a few highlights from Behind the Seeds at Epcot’s The Land pavilion.
The tour desk for Behind the Seeds is located inside The Land pavilion, between Soarin’ and the exit of Living with the Land.

A Troubled History: Stitch's Great Escape at Magic Kingdom
A brief history of Stich’s Great Escape.
By Martin Wittko
Located in Tomorrowland, Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch had a ride about him escaping a cosmic jail cell in an x-vision type circular arena. You smelled, heard, and saw what was happening on the attraction.
Let's go right back to the grand opening of this ride.
This space was originally Flight to the Moon, followed by Misson to Mars, and then Alien Encounter, which opened on June 20th, 1995.
The ride closed on January 12th, 1996 because Disney CEO Michael Eisner thought it wasn’t intense enough.
Disney spent $10 million dollars to “retool” the attraction.
Disney mega fans praised the ride saying it was dark and thrilling, but your average guest, normally with children, described it as “too scary.”
The popularity after all the negative reviews and people hating the attraction was just the start of the problems.
So, on September 21st, 2003 Disney said they were closing Alien Encounter.
A dismantled Stitch animatronic from Stitch's Great Escape at Disney World. (SubstituteHero)
Credit: The MickeyWiki
Many guests were very happy about this. They felt that the movie Lilo and Stitch was more kid-friendly.
Alien Encounter closed on October 12th, 2003, and was later reopened as Stitch’s Great Escape on November 16th, 2004.
With most of the same technology as Alien Encounter, only the story was different, Even the theater was the same!
The people were split. Some people said it was a wonderful replacement with good family-friendly action.
While others had complaints. The most complaints came from his burp which made guests feel sick to their stomachs.
On October 1st the attraction was put on seasonal operation for a year until 2017. The doors were always open for a Stitch meet and greet while the ride was still seasonal.
But on January 6th, 2018 the attraction closed for a lengthy period of time. In October 2018 the animatronic was dismantled.
In 2019 the ride closed for good and the signage was taken down in August of 2020.
So, what does Stitch's great escape look like now? It’s a cast member break room.
It doesn’t look like anything really. Just a sad image. But that is the downfall of Stitch's Great Escape.

JetBlue Introduces New Design for Planes
jetBlue planes will be transformed from all-white to all-blue and will have new graphics.
JetBlue, which has a strong presence here in Orlando, unveiled its new standard livery featuring a bold and all-blue design inspired by its role as an innovative, industry-disrupting brand that customers love and trust for travel to and from Florida.
The new “icon in the sky” gives JetBlue a standout visual design as it expands to new markets.
Recently JetBlue moved into a new hub at Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C, one of the most beautiful and modern terminals in the U.S.
The first aircraft to receive the new livery paint is an Airbus A321 with Mint, aptly named “A Defining MoMint,” which went into service on June 15.
JetBlue plans to refresh all of its current standard liveries as part of its normal aircraft painting cycle.

Rock n Roller Coaster
Rock n roller coaster starring: Aerosmith has officially reopened!
That’s right! The classic rock-themed roller coaster is back with no changes.
They kept Aerosmith in it and after 3 months it's finally back!
I personally love this thrilling race to an Aerosmith concert (with backstage passes) through Hollywood.
Jam out to fan favorite Aerosmith hits such as Love in an Elevator, Sweet Emotion, and Walk this Way.
The coaster starts out with a launch that goes around 57 miles an hour which is reached in 2.8 seconds.
It then goes straight into a tall and standard loop to the top of the building blasting the band’s famous smash hits.
The race through Hollywood theme is carried on by neon-painted signs with things like Hollywood and California on them.
The ride is good to start for extreme coasters such as the coasters at six flags and Universal Orlando.
The ride takes drops with one Barrel roll down. It's a very fast ride with a ride time of roughly 2 minutes.
The ride car has a shoulder press and is very spacious. I recommend using shorts with zip-up pockets because the pouches are not always the safest option.
The queue for the ride is a recording studio. When you walk in you see famous posters for Queen and some new Disney movies or songs.
The magic band or your Magic Mobile is read by a little sensor and you might even see your name right on one of the digital posters.
You walk into a recording studio where you see a ton of guitars and the band actually recording - or at least an in-life-like movie they are.
Their manager walks in and tells them they are going to be late to their show, before they leave they get backstage passes and a super stretch limo is called to take them there.
You go out into a back alley-type place where you load onto your limo. The launch right at the start of the ride takes you through reaching high speeds with loops.
This may be a good ride for 9 and up.
It depends on what they really like and their preference.
Rock n roller coaster is open for you to enjoy! Book with OrlandoParksGuy.com to see for yourself!

Disney Cruise Line: 2024 Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises Coming Soon
Disney Cruise Line Late 2024 Sailings Announced
Disney Cruise Line just announced that 2024 Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises are coming soon.
We had a chance to experience Halloween on the High Seas on the Disney Wish last year and it was one of the best cruises we’ve been on. From Halloween parties to the decorations, it was a great way to enhance our Disney cruise. I highly recommend it.
Disney Wish: Halloween on the High Seas
Also announced are some rare itineraries to Hawaii and the South Pacific and more opportunities to visit Disney’s newest island Lighthouse Point.

Special Disney Cruise Line Sailings to Hawaii and the South Pacific
In addition to the festive-themed sailings, Disney Cruise Line guests can experience bucket-list itineraries in late 2024.
The Disney Wonder will sail from Vancouver, Canada, to Honolulu, Hawaii, in late September with stops on the islands of Kauai, Maui and Hawaii before arriving in Oahu.
From Hawaii, the Disney Wonder will embark on a transpacific voyage to Sydney, Australia, that will take families through the South Pacific to visit once-in-a-lifetime destinations such as Fiji, American Samoa and New Caledonia.
Disney Cruise Line will then set sail on its second season of vacations from Australia and New Zealand, bringing the magic of Disney close to home for local families in the region.
“Thank you so much for being so patient with us. We had a great first cruise. Your advice was spot on especially with the dining package. ”

My Favorite Restaurants at Disney Springs
Martin Wittko shares his Top 5 favorite restaurants at Disney Springs
By Martin Wittko
Disney Springs. The perfect place to dine, shop, and play! There is a lot to offer when you come to this magical place. Many restaurants are available! From sit down to quick service there are tons of options. Now what are OrlandoParksGuy's (and son) Top 5 restaurants?
Number 5: Boathouse. I recommend sitting outside, The boats and the nice breeze of Florida feel great while you sit over the water.
They have a huge bar with bar food like hamburgers.
They also have upscale-style steaks and are also known for their seafood.
Customers can enjoy boats and boating gear inside, have a round of drinks and a burger, or have a wonderful delicious steak or seafood with family or friends.
The service is wonderful with nice staff caring for your every need!
The place is wonderful, but not as good as Number 4, which is Planet Hollywood. Amazing American food with rock music sing-alongs in an observatory-themed area.
Good burgers with movie props from movies like Back to the Future, Nightmare on Elm Street, Home Alone, and many more!
Well, Number 3 is where we start getting serious.
T-Rex is also an American food restaurant but has a prehistoric time period with cool light show effects and meteor showers.
Great service with amazing staff with a gift shop for prehistoric gifts.
The 2nd best restaurant in Disney Springs is Blaze Pizza. It is wonderful to make your own pizza that is charred and crispy.
A fun way to make your day.
It's open for lunch and dinner.
The last one is the best restaurant in all of Disney Springs. This will probably shock you, but our number 1 is Earl of Sandwich!
The best of the best place to get yummy sandwiches is this 1700s-themed restaurant in the back of Disney Springs.
Find a table to enjoy the best sandwich you have ever tasted. The Earl really delivers something great!
That is the top 5 restaurants to try in Disney Springs and if you’re feeling hungry book your next vacation to OrlandoParksGuy.com. He is also on Facebook and Instagram.

Hidden Disney World Deals February - March 2024
Stay in a Disney World Moderate hotel for less than a Value hotel.
2024 Disney World packages just went on sale and while there are no discounts or offers available, there are some hidden deals, especially if you travel in February and March 2024.
What I’m about to show you speaks to why booking your Disney vacation with me is a great value. I am logged into Disney’s pricing system all day, every day so I know where to find great deals, even if there aren’t any officially posted to the public.
Get your Disney World quote today!
So, when is the best time to visit Disney World in 2024?
In the example below we see that a vacation package at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort costs less than the same package at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
Let me say that again! Caribbean Beach, a Disney Moderate hotel, is being offered for less money than a Disney Value hotel.
For reference, I was quoting a 3 nights, 3-day tickets, and Quick Service Dining Plan.
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, a Disney Moderate-category hotel, also costs less per night than Pop Century Resort.
You could argue that Pop Century is on the Disney Skyliner, which is very convenient.
But so is Caribbean Beach. And Caribbean Beach is the hub for Skyliner so it’s even more convenient than Pop Century.
Coronado Springs is the flagship Moderate hotel and has far more comforts and amenities like larger rooms, upgraded softgoods, central AC, several on-site restaurants, and a themed pool with a water slide.
Disney’s Moderate hotels don’t usually cost less than the value hotels.
This is obvious just by the category titles.
But if you know where and when to look, you can snag a great deal. Or you can ask me to do it for you.
I’m also seeing this at the Disney World Deluxe hotels where the rates at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort are lower than Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
Here’s a quote I was working on for a 10-night stay. My client asked for a deluxe resort with the regular Disney Dining Plan.
A “Water View” room at the Polynesian offers views of the pool or lagoon. A “Resort View” room at the Grand Floridian has views of a courtyard, pool, or lagoon. So both are very similar there.
But what’s so surprising is the Grand Floridian is Disney’s flagship hotel.
It’s the resort that Disney is most proud of and it typically costs more than any other resort.
It also has the largest standard rooms on Disney property, it’s on the monorail, and it’s within walking distance to Magic Kingdom.
There could be a number of reasons for these unannounced discounts, but I can only speculate.
One theory I have is that Disney is quietly testing the waters to see what happens if they lower prices. Or perhaps Pop Century and the Polynesian have grown to be super popular and Disney can get higher rates for them.
But one thing I’m sure of is that Disney is attempting to drive bookings in certain directions.
Whatever the reason, it's great for travelers that want to visit this winter.
Every day I help people book magical vacations to Walt Disney World. I offer insider, expert advice. I’d love to help you too. Request a quote here.

New! Tron Lightcycle Run at Walt Disney World
Guide to Tron: Lightcycle Run Magic Kingdom
By Martin Wittko
NEW! Tron: Lightcycle run at the Walt Disney World resort in Florida has recently opened! Here is an ultimate guide to this new futuristic attraction.
Tron Lightcycle Run originally opened in 2016 at Shanghai Disneyland Park.
In 2017 it was announced that the same attraction would open at Walt Disney World in Tomorrowland located near Space Mountain.
It is a big structure, worth the 5 year wait! Tron officially opened on April 4th, 2023.
Tron Lightcycle run is a roller coaster that, at top speeds, goes around 59 miles per hour.
It’s one of the faster rides at Walt Disney World, but still not the fastest. Test Track is 65 mph and is still the fastest attraction.
The ride vehicle is a motorcycle-type vehicle.
Disney has sample ride vehicles at the entrance of the ride.
Some people say the position they’re on the ride vehicles is hard on their knees.
Fortunately, there is a more traditional coaster ride vehicle available. Tron is a very cool experience for all the Tron movie fans out there but, I recommend you do it at night so the outside area lights up.
The ride starts out with a long fast launch at 59 miles an hour which goes up and around over the outside line and into the ride building.
Once inside you will see screens with Team Orange (your opposing team) and hear sounds with lights and colors set to techy music.
The ending for the ride stops immediately which may be slightly displeasing.
The ride is quick due to its speed with an under 4 minutes time period.
The ride definitely is ahead of its time, and timing! In the ride’s queue, you will be digitized (placed into) The world of Tron, and you will see the Lightcycle move right under you which is the launch to start off the ride.
Tron is not faster than Testtrack at EPCOT or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind also at EPCOT
But still an exhilarating ride for movie fans and thrill seekers.
While having mild drops and no Loops of any kind, I would say it's an advanced kiddy ride.
While there are no loops or drops it is in the dark which may be scary.
The launch is fast but if your kid can do coasters like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Slinky-Dog Dash, Your youngsters might enjoy it.
That's your ultimate guide to Tron: Lightcycle Run book with OrlandoParksGuy.com for great offers so you can see it for yourself! (Written by Martin Wittko, “The child” of OrlandoParksGuy.com)

2024 Package FAQ
How much is a Disney World package?
Package pricing varies by date, number of nights, hotel, number of guests, ages of guests, ticket type, and any add-ons. I can help you determine the exact cost based on your specific plans.
What month is Disney World cheapest?
Typically prices are lowest in late August through early October. Rates are usually higher from February through April. We see the highest rates on holiday weeks like Christmas, President’s Day and Easter.
When is Disney World less crowded?
In general, you can expect lower-than-normal crowds whenever grade schools are in session, fall and late spring in particular. That being said, I have seen lower crowds during the last week of July through the end of August in recent years. Mother’s Day weekend is also a great time to visit for low crowds.

Secrets and Easter Eggs in Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Walt Disney World
Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is loaded with hidden detail Here are some of my favorites.
Roundup Rodeo BBQ inside Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is packed with hidden details. From floor to ceiling, Imagineers included hidden references and story elements everywhere you look.
The restaurant was created by Andy, the boy who owns the toys from the Toy Story films. Andy used whatever he could to build a restaurant for his toys.
Notice the twisty tie holding up the lantern on the sign, and a scrap piece of low-voltage wire for the other lantern on the right.
Andy used whatever he had available to make his restaurant.
As soon as you enter Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you are shrunken down to the size of a toy.
This theme is carried into the Roundup Rodeo as well. You’ll notice that most objects appear larger than life.
Notice how big the cardboard toy cutouts are, and even the Christmas lights are huge, in our smaller, toy-like size.
In the lobby of Woody’s Roundup Rodeo, we see a mural of “The Amazing Ropin’ Woody” with “spring action.”
We see that Andy has drawn in Buzz Lightyear’s nemesis, Emperor Zurg who now appears to be lassoed by Woody.
We know Andy drew him in because Zurg would not appear on anything from Woody’s Roundup playset.
These characters only exist together in Andy’s world.
As you enter the restaurant, you’ll notice that Andy has arranged his toys just like the picture on the box: Woody has lassoed Zurg.
There are references to many of the Toy Story characters if you know where to look - and if you know where to listen.
Listen for some audio references that play occasionally over the restaurant’s PA system.
You may hear a recording from Partysaurus Rex, or even Sarge who warns that Andy is coming.
The entire restaurant, staff included, freezes in position (because we’re all toys, remember?) While we never see Andy, we can hear that he is nearby.
When we hear Andy leave, we get the all-clear from Sarge and it’s safe to move again. It’s cute!
Although the story is focused on Woody, there are references to most of the main Toy Story characters.
The more I looked around the restaurant, the more I found them.
I’m sure I missed quite a few but I can only wander around the restaurant for so long before it gets weird lol. I get the look of “Why is this guy taking pictures of the walls and ceiling??
Even secondary characters are present like the Little Green Aliens and the romantic and flirty Bo Peep.
Every square inch of the ceiling has some type of reference to Toy Story and/or something Andy created.
In one part you’ll see a page of an actual Woody comic strip that was created just for the restaurant.
The walls of the restaurant are made from toy boxes, a puzzle, and scrap cardboard.
Disney Imagineers created two board games, one with a space theme and one with a frontier theme. You can see the game boards on the ceiling of Roundup Rodeo BBQ.
These are real games that Imagineers actually played. They even wrote directions on how to play them.
Can you find Buzz Lighyear’s rocketship? Yep, that’s in there too!
The Triple R Ranch is also referenced at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. I just mentioned it in my video tour of Ft. Wilderness as well.
The Tri-Circle D Ranch at Fort Wilderness is home to the 90+ working horses of Walt Disney World. The name is a reference to the Triple R Ranch.
Triple R Ranch is a reference from an old spinoff of the beloved Mickey Mouse Club called “The Adventures of Spin and Marty.” The Triple R Ranch was the summer camp that the two boys attended in the series.
Can you spot the Hidden Mickey?
Look directly at the base of Trixy and you’ll spot a 3-dimensional Hidden Mickey.
You can see his head, nose, and of course, ears.
The back wall of Roundup Rodeo is made from a nearly completed puzzle.
Notice that 2 pieces are missing.
The missing pieces can be found somewhere in Toy Story Land. If you can find them, post where you spotted them in the comments below.
Russell, our favorite Wilderness Explorer from Disney Pixar’s Up has a cameo in Roundup Rodeo and is the only non-Toy Story character to appear in the restaurant.
Oh, and the character on the far left - is made in the likeness of the lead Disney Imagineer on this project.
Remember Minnie Moo from the 1980s and 1990s? She was the infamous dairy cow who was born with a Hidden Mickey patch on her side.

Minnie Moo can be found on the side of Andy’s milk carton inside the restaurant.
And the expiration date on the milk carton refers to the date the first Toy Story film was released in theaters: Nov 22, 1995.
And the 01:13 is not there by accident either. “A113” is a classroom number at the California Institute of the Arts where character animation is taught.
Many of the Pixar staff have used the number in their professional works. It is said to appear in some way, shape, or form in every Pixar film (and restaurant!)
