Major Work Planned for Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Several closures coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

I can’t help but feel the excitement building around the new adventures coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. With fresh experiences on the horizon, this iconic park is about to offer even more fun for families.

One of the most thrilling developments is the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land. This expansion will immerse Guests in the whimsical world of Monsters, Inc. Today, Disney shared significant updates about the project, announcing that construction will soon begin. Progress walls are expected to be installed in the area before the end of March, signaling the start of something magical.

It’s bittersweet news for fans of Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, as the beloved eatery will serve its final Guests on May 10. If you’re anything like my family, dining options are a crucial part of our theme park experience, and we'll be sure to savor one last meal there before it closes.

For those who adore the Muppets, there’s still some time to enjoy classic attractions like MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo. These areas will kick off a glorious 5-month finale, culminating on June 7. The Muppets hold a special place in many of our hearts, and Disney is currently exploring ways to preserve the MuppetVision 3D film and other experiences for future generations. The news that Kermit, Miss Piggy, and friends will soon be making a move to a new home on Sunset Boulevard adds another layer of excitement. Stay tuned for more updates on this transition.

I encourage families headed to Walt Disney World to keep an eye on these developments. The addition of new attractions and experiences will surely enhance the overall magic of Hollywood Studios. With Monsters, Inc. and the Muppets in focus, this is an incredible time to be part of the Disney experience. Stay tuned for future announcements, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!

Disney Cruise Line Gratuity Increase 2025

Beginning Jan. 22, a gratuity increase will take effect for all sailings beginning January 23, 2025 or later.

Beginning Jan. 22, a gratuity increase will take effect for all sailings beginning January 23, 2025 or later.

For non-Concierge Guests, Disney Cruise Line will increase the recommended pre-paid gratuities by $1.50 per person/per day. This new recommendation will increase the gratuities for the Assistant Dining Room Server, Dining Room Server, and Stateroom Host/Hostess. The total recommended gratuity is $16.00 per person/per day.

For Concierge Guests, the recommended increase is $3.75 per person/per day. In addition to the positions listed above, there is also a recommended increase for the Assistant Stateroom Host/Hostess and the Concierge Lounge Team positions. The recommended gratuity is now $27.25 per person/per day.

Guests who have already pre-paid gratuities for an upcoming sailing will not increase to the new pricing.

Most of my clients prepay their gratuities because it’s much more convenient that paying out in cash. If you don’t prepay gratuities, you’ll be given paper envelops for cash. Then, usually on the last night of your cruise, you will give hand out your envelops to the people who took care of you.

But if you pay in American money, for example, the crew memeber will need to find a place to do the conversion. American money is useless to them becasue they seldom, if ever, get off the ship in the United States.

But if you prepay them, the ship takes care of the conversion for them automatically.

Prepaying gratuities does’’t really save you money, but it certainly doesn’t cost you any more. And 100% of the gratuity goes to your staff.

And for those who provide exceptional service onboard that are deserving of a little something extra, feel free to slip them some cash - in this case, American money would be fine.

Disney Cruise Line Updates Luggage Tags

If you’re sailing on Disney Cruise Line, you may notice these updates to the luggage tag design.

Disney Cruise Line luggage tags will soon feature a new format which will streamline the luggage process by making luggage tags easier to identify.

Disney Cruise Line began sending out luggage tags reflecting the new format, as shown below, last week.

Disney-Cruise-Line-Luggage Tags

There will now be three tag versions sent to Guests: Concierge, non-Concierge and GTY.

Each ship will have its own specific color for luggage tags.

The tags for Concierge Guests will no longer be a separate color.

Instead, they will be the same color as non-Concierge Guests and have a crossed-key icon as pictured above.

The keys will display on tags sent pre-cruise as well as the generic tags Guests can get at the port. GTY stateroom tags will feature a large blank space for Guests to write in their stateroom number once it is assigned.

The color for each ship is as follows:

  • Disney Magic - GREEN

  • Disney Wonder – ORANGE

  • Disney Dream – BLUE

  • Disney Fantasy – PURPLE

  • Disney Wish – MAROON

  • Disney Treasure – YELLOW

In addition to the above changes, Guests may notice the following when receiving the new luggage tag design:

  • Updated luggage tags will no longer feature a barcode.

  • Stateroom numbers will be printed in a larger font.

  • The timeline for Guests to receive their luggage tags will remain unchanged.

  • The Luggage Tag Mailer will remain the same. Only the luggage tags themselves are being updated.

  • The process to obtain luggage tags at the port will remain the same.

  • Porters will have both Concierge and Non-Concierge generic luggage tags available for Guests who arrive without their luggage tags.

Additionally, as this change is happening in the middle of active sailings, there will be a period when Guests on the same sailing may have different luggage tags - some with the current format luggage tags and others with the updated format luggage tags. This will have no impact on the luggage process. Guests do not need to request new luggage tags if they have already received the previous version.

Universal Orlando is going to have a big year in 2025 as it prepares to open a new theme park, Epic Universe on May 22. But what if you plan your Universal vacation before the park opens? I have 10 helpful tips on how to experience Universal Orlando this year.

10. When to Visit Universal Orlando in 2025

Choosing when to visit Universal Orlando will be a tough call in 2025. Do you go before Epic Universe opens and take advantage of deep discounts, or do you wait to see the new park? There are some major pros and cons here.

The last major theme park to open in Orlando was Islands of Adventure, and that was 1999. But as of right now, you’ll only be able to visit Epic Universe 1 day and you must buy a minimum of a 2-day day ticket which most people will do anyway. I don’t think Universal is going to have any trouble putting heads in the beds after Epic Universe opens, so the discounts might not be as good as they are for winter and spring travel.

And what are those discounts? Right now you can get deep discounts on Universal hotels and take advantage of a special ticket offer: buy 2 park days, get two park days free. There’s another offer running that will give you a Universal meal card worth up to $1,000. The gift card amount is based on the resort and the number of nights you book.

If you’re primarily concerned about weather and crowds. That’s easy. For crowds, avoid school breaks such as President's Day week, the week of Easter, and Christmas week. If you come in September, the parks are pretty much empty.

And if you visit from August through October, you can attend Halloween Horror Nights. I expect summer will be crowded because the opening of Epic Universe will draw massive crowds. As for mild weather, my favorite months in Orlando are April, May, and October.

Watch this on my YouTube channel:

9. 2025 Universal Orlando Tickets

Currently, Universal Orlando is running a promotional ticket where you get 2 days free when you buy 2 days. So, that’s 4 days in the parks, for the price of 2. You can add on Volcano Bay water park which is well worth it. The cost to add Volcano Bay is minimal so even if you just go a a few hours, it’s worth it.

Now, I highly recommend adding the Park to Park feature to your tickets, This allows you to visit multiple parks on the same day. This is the only way to ride the Hogwarts Express train because it travels between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. It’s also a major attraction - if you’re a Harry Potter fan, this is a must-do.

Universal uses date-based ticket pricing - meaning each calendar day has a different price. In most cases the cost difference is minimal from one day to the next, however, there are more significant increases during peak travel times like Easter and Christmas.

The good news is that Universal gives you a discount on multi-day tickets. So, a 4-day ticket costs less per day than a 1 or 2-day ticket. In other words, the longer your ticket, the cheaper each day gets.

8. Universal Express Passes

Most theme parks offer a skip-the-line feature that can be added to a regular ticket. Universal Orlando’s is called Express Pass. It’s a very easy system, though not cheap. In contrast, Disney World is super confusing but cheap - and very limited. But Universal offers a hack where you can get express passes for free! More on that in a moment. At Universal, for an additional fee - ranging anywhere in price from $80 to $280 per person, you can skip the line at most attractions 1 time.

Then there’s Express Pass Unlimited which allows you to skip the lines as much as you want at most attractions. This option runs from about $100 to $325 per person, per day.

As of right now, Express Pass does not work at Volcano Bay or Epic Universe. There’s a separate Express ticket for Volcano Bay and Universal has not shared if Epic Universe will have a skip-the-line feature.

How do you get Express Passes for Free? Stay at one of Unviersal’s Premier Hotels. All but Helios Grand Hotel includes complimentary Express Pass Unlimited for guests staying at this hotel. I often advise my clients to stay at a Premier hotel rather than purchase Express Pass separately. It’s often cheaper, especially if you have a larger family.

Express Passes are a terrific feature. If you have the budget for them or for a Premier hotel, I do think it's money well spent here. If there’s one splurge you’re going to make, Express Pass should be it. Lines at Universal get very long.

7. Universal Orlando Hotels - New for 2025

Universal Orlando operates 11 hotels divided into 4 categories: Value Inn and Suites, Prime Value, and Signature. There are quite a few off-property hotels that can be booked as Universal packages as well; however, most of them are similar in cost and come with fewer perks. One of my favorite off-site hotels is the Drury Inn, which offers free breakfast and transportation. I have a video tour of this resort; I’ll link to it in the description.

Some of the off-site hotels are in less than desirable areas especially those on International Drive. So you really need to ask your travel agent about the good, the bad and the ugly here. Did I mention that I’m a travel advisor who lives in Orlando? Reach out to me now I have answers to all your questions.

I have stayed at most of the Universal hotels and enjoyed each one. Royal Pacific, Portofino Bay, Hard Rock, Sapphire Falls, and Helios Grand all make up the Premier hotel category. I don’t think you would be disappointed with any of them, they all feature exciting pools, and multiple onsite restaurants, and are close to at least one of the theme parks.

Royal Pacific, Hard Rock, and Portofino Bay hotels come with free Express Passes so you can skip the lines in the parks. This can save you up to $300 per person, per day. You can even buy 1 night at these resorts and you’ll get two days of free Express Passes included with your theme park admission. So you don’t have to stay in a Signature hotel the entire time, although I think you should if it fits your budget.

As of right now, Helios Grand and Sapphire Falls do not include these Free Express Passes.

You also get priority dining when staying at a Signature restaurant, this means you can walk up to any restaurant at Universal and City Walk, flash your room key, and you’ll automatically be bumped up to the top of the waitlist.

Speaking of CityWalk, this is Universal’s dining and nightclub district, located just outside Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.

Portofino Bay Resort is considered to be the flagship hotel in the Signature Category. It has an Italian theme and a nice pool. Steven Spielberg personally supervised the design of this hotel and was instrumental in the creation of Universal Orlando Resort as a whole. The Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando offers a music-infused atmosphere that’s perfect for families, especially those with teens. This is my favorite hotel at Universal. The California mission-style design creates a chill vibe. It was designed to look like a rockstar’s mansion in California. Loews Royal Pacific Resort offers a tropical vibe with lush landscaping, several restaurants, and a lagoon-style pool. It’s another one of my favorite Premier resorts because it’s usually the least expensive, yet includes the valuable Express Pass.

Other Popular Hotels are Cabana Bay Beach Resort - a mid-century modern hotel that has 2 great pools, a 50’s style diner, a bowling alley, and even a fitness center that is also an actual museum of fitness guru Jack LaLanne. And Aventura Hotel is ideal for guests traveling without kids, though kids are certainly welcome here. It has a posh, hipster vibe, complete with a rooftop lounge overlooking Orlando. The room-service robots blew my mind.

Stella Luna opens on January 27, 2025, and Terra Lune opens on February 25, 2025. This hotel is located just outside Epic Universe while Helios Grand Hotel will be located inside Epic Universe. Helios Grand will open in May. Reservations for all three are already being accepted.

6: Planning for the Theme Parks and Epic Universe

Universal Studios Florida is a dynamic theme park inspired by the original Hollywood studios, featuring immersive lands based on iconic films and television shows. These include New York, Hollywood, and San Francisco, which capture the essence of major film backlots, as well as more unique areas like Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley, and Springfield U.S.A. (Home of The Simpsons).

Most guests head straight to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley and it’s easy to see why. With the thrilling Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride, the replica of King's Cross Station featuring the Hogwarts Express, and the magical Ollivander's wand selection ceremonies, this immersive area offers something for every Harry Potter fan.

Another standout attraction is the Revenge of the Mummy indoor coaster, which delivers high-speed thrills with a spooky twist. For a more classic, family-friendly experience, the E.T. Adventure dark ride offers a nostalgic journey that's perfect for all ages. Whether seeking thrills, magic, or timeless adventure, Universal Studios Florida has plenty to captivate every guest.

Some of my favorite shows here are Animal Actors which is often overlooked but super funny and a must if you love animals. Universal’s Horror Makeup show which is a hilarious special effects show, and the thrilling Bourne Stuntacular - has some of the best special effects I have ever seen.

If Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket is running during your visit, ride it. It’s closing permanently in 2025 to make way for a new coaster.

Universal’s Islands of Adventure, which opened in 1999 as the second theme park at Universal Orlando, offers a more action-packed experience than its sister park, Universal Studios Florida. With eight thrilling themed lands, including Marvel Super Hero Island, Jurassic Park, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade, Islands of Adventure is a haven for thrill seekers and fans of immersive storytelling.

While Universal Studios Florida captures the essence of movie magic, Islands of Adventure amps up the excitement with high-speed roller coasters, intense rides, and interactive experiences.

But it’s also home to the kid-friendly Suess Landing where you’ll find attractions based on The Cat in the Hat, one of my personal favorites, the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley, character meet and greets, and gift shops. This is where you can get those infamous Thing 1 and Thing 2 Shirts

Two of the most popular rides are Velocicoaster, which is Orlando’s most thrilling coaster by far, and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure which is heavy on the Harry Potter theme and packs a lot of thrilling surprises. Both are some of my favorite coasters I’ve ever been on.

5. Tips for Volcano Bay Water Park

A lot of theme parks today have water parks attached to them but Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay is truly unique. I think it’s the best water park in Orlando because the attractions are great and the line management system works flawlessly.

See, Volcano Bay uses a virtual line system so you’re not standing on the stairs all day waiting to ride a water slide. You enter virtual queues and get notified when it’s your time to ride. In the meantime, you’re free to explore other attractions in the park that don’t have lines like the wave pool or 1 of 2 lazy rivers.

4. Universal CityWalk

Just outside of Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, Universal CityWalk. It offers a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment, including the new Universal’s Great Movie Escape experience. My personal favorites are the Hard Rock Cafe which has the best burger I’ve ever had, of all time. And VooDoo Donuts, which serves crazy donut confections. I recommend doing a mobile order as the line gets super long.  You’ll also find Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, and the Universal Studios Store for souvenirs.

There are quite a few late-night nightclubs as well like the Cuban-themed Red Coconut Club for those ages 21+, and Rising Star Karaoke for those ages 18+

3. Halloween Horror Nights

Halloween Horror Nights draw hordes of thrill-seekers to Universal Studios Florida on select nights from August through Early November. I find it absolutely terrifying, I mean this is designed by Hollywood special effects artists.  But it’s a must-do during the Halloween season. There are usually about 10 immersive haunted houses and scare zones. If you don’t want to be too scared, avoid the Haunted HOuses and just take in the atmosphere of the scare zones. You can also sample some of the Halloween-themed snacks offered throughout the park. I highly recommend the event to anyone who enjoys scary movies though it’s not suitable for children under 13. This event draws a mostly adult crown so young kids will be out of place here.

One thing to keep in mind is that Universal Studios Florida will close very early when Halloween Horror Nights are being offered. Islands of Adventure will stay open later.

2. How Many Days are Needed at Universal

So how many days do you need at Universal Orlando? Well, this isn’t going to be a short answer, because we have Epic Universe opening halfway into 2025. So, in a pre-Epic Universe world, I recommend spending 3 full days at Universal, if you want to tour the parks at a relaxed pace. This will leave you plenty of time to enjoy the hotel and have some nice meals,,

And if you plan to visit Volcano Bay Water Park, I would plan on 3 to 4 days. Just keep in mind that If you’re traveling in the fall and winter, Volcano Water Park is often closed for cool weather. Volcano Bay is exhausting, so I don’t know if you’ll have the energy as a family to skip off to a theme park afterward.

Even if you don’t do Volcano Bay, I would still recommend a 3-day ticket. But if you want two days, it can be done, you’re going to need an Express Pass. See without Express Passes, you’ll spend an entire morning or afternoon just getting through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. That will leave you with a half day to see the rest of the park. But with Express Pass, you’ll zip through the most popular attractions.

What about Epci Universe - well if you’re traveling after May 22, 2025, you should add an additional day just for this park. At a minimum I would plan on a 3-day ticket: 1 day for Islands of Adventure, 1 day for Universal Studios, 1 day for Volcano Bay, and 1 day for Epic Universe. So you will need a hotel reservation for at least 4 or 5 nights.

If you wart to come down for a long weekend and go a grueling pace, it’s possible. But just make sure you’re getting Express Passes.

1 Budget Planning

Theme park ticket prices keep rising, but I’ve found that Universal Orlando has some great deals for travelers looking to save on their Orlando vacation. Most of these special offers include ticket offers and discounts but usually require a minimum length of stay. If you book a Universal Orlando package, you’ll get benefits like Early Park Admission and complimentary transportation to the theme parks. The deposit to book your package is $50 per person. The final Balance is due by 45 days to check-in. I can schedule monthly payments for my clients so they can pay down the balance little by little.

Be sure to factor in dining costs, a lot of people spend way more than they thought. Theme parks are pricey, and you’ll be eating out all the time. Figure about $50 to $60 per person, per day. If you have a question about Universal Orlando, don’t keep it to yourself. I’ll be in the comments answering your questions along with some other Universal experts.

Budgeting is the hardest part of any vacation. I have a video titled What is the Real Cost of a Universal Orlando Vacation? I provide more budget planning tips and ways to save money. You can check out the video, the link is coming up right now. I’ll see you there!

Longest Line I’ve Ever Seen at Disney World

Super long line today at Epcot! How long would be willing to wait for this?

frozen-ever-after-epcot-line

This was the longest line I think I have ever seen at Disney World. The line for Frozen Ever After in Epcot stretched outside of the Norway Pavilion and past the China Pavilion. The Disney World mobile app said the wait was 130 minutes at about 1:30 pm.

I asked a Cast Member what he thought the actual wait time was. He said it has been averaging around 3 hours.

I haven’t seen the line for Frozen Ever After this long since Covid, but that was because of 6ft social distancing. I

How long are you willing to wait for this attraction?

Soarin’ at Epcot Closed from Broken Water Pipe

Broken water pipe causes flood inside The Land pavilion at EPCOT

At around 1 pm on January 3, 2025 Cast Members working the entrance of Soarin’ Around the World noticed water dripping from the ceiling, inside The Land pavilion at Epcot. Water suddenly began pouring down from the ceiling causing a flood on the floor between the entrance and exit areas. Custodial Cast Members appeared to spawn from thin air with towels and began containing the water as best they could.

Guests who were exiting the attraction were instructed to walk around the water while those who wanted to enter the queue were turned away.

Utopia of the Seas Onboard Entertainment

The entertainment on Utopia of the Seas is like nothing I’ve ever experienced on a cruise—it's packed with high-energy shows, immersive experiences, and a wide range of activities that keep you entertained.

Entertainment Place, one of the 8 neighborhoods, is located on Deck 4, and where you’ll find the ship’s main theater. There’s no Broadway show on Utopia - but it’s certainly set up for one. Maybe someday. However, the theater is still used for stage shows and comedy shows.

There’s Studio B, the ship’s ice arena. You can skate here during the day - just remember to bring long pants, shorts are not allowed. And at night, there’s a terrific ice show featuring very talented performers. This is also where we played laser tag, my favorite family activity on the ship. Laser tag is free but only offered on select days - so check the app for times. It’s a massive inflatable fortress with strobe lights and energetic music. And don’t worry, you’re not playing on the ice, there’s a retractable floor that slides out.

One of my favorite things about Royal Caribbean is that they have great Casinos. Utopia Casino is one of the largest at sea, with smoking and non-smoking sections available. I like to play a little of everything here. Tables are usually around $10 - $15 most nights. I’d like to see a better selection of slots, there weren’t too many I recognized and some were like off-brand Wheel of Fortune machines.

Dining on Utopia of the Seas

Remember when I told you Utopia of the Seas was the second-largest cruise ship in the world? Well, here’s another amazing fact - it has 22 restaurants onboard. That’s more than most shopping malls and small towns. Now, I could do an entire show just on Utopia of the Seas’ restaurants…in fact, if you’d like to see that, let me know in the comments.

For now, I’ll show you the most popular starting with The Royal Railway Restaurant. This is an immersive dinner show that takes place inside a very realistic train car that uses augmented reality. On our cruise, the price was $140 per person but I didn’t decide on time and it ended up selling out. So next time on that one.

Windjammers, the ship’s buffet was among my favorite spots to dine. This massive space is well-organized and flows well. Royal Caribbean really it got it right here.  It can get a little crowded for breakfast so I recommend another option like the Main Dining Room. You can expect salads, sandwiches, a carving station, and a rotating menu of international foods. There’s even a tiny kid’s buffet with things like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and fruit cups.

Windjammers Buffet

And speaking of the Main Dining Room, this is another great option - also included in your cruise fare at no extra cost.

The Main Dining Room is open for breakfast and dinner, and is located on Decks 3, 4, and 5. The dinner menu changes each night and includes an appetizer, a main entree, and a dessert. You can order as much as you like so if you want to try a few different entrees or desserts, that’s ok. Everything we ordered was fantastic here.

Main Dining Room on Utopia of the Seas

Here’s a secret, when you get your Sea Pass Card (your room key)  read it carefully. You’ll see the floor you have been assigned and your table number at the main dining room.

There is another buffet that is included, Solarium Bistro is located on Deck 15 Forward. It’s a Mediterranean-themed restaurant that serves fresh salads, soups, and sandwiches. The atmosphere and views are amazing from here. It’s often less crowded than Windjammers.

El Loco Fresh on Deck 16 is yet another included restaurant. It serves tacos, which I thought were pretty good, burritos, and a few other Mexican favorites. I was able to order a custom burrito here too because I am a picky eater. It gets very crowded for lunch because it’s close to the pool and sports deck.

And speaking of the pool, Utopia has a brand new restaurant not found on any other Royal Caribbean ship: the Spare Tire.  This is more of a grab-and-go quick service location than a restaurant. On my visit, they were serving something similar to a pizza roll that was pretty good, chicken sandwiches, and veggie wraps. If you’re at the pool and just need a snack, mission accomplished here.

As mentioned in the Central Park segment, there are quite a few specialty dining restaurants like 150 Park, Izumi, and Chops Grill. Passengers on Utopia of the Seas have access to a diverse selection of extra-fee restaurants, ranging from casual eateries to upscale dining experiences. For specialty restaurants, reservations can be made online or through the cruise line's mobile app,

Once on board, you still have options for dining reservations. You can easily book a table by calling from you cabin or visiting the restaurant in person to make a reservation.

giovannis italian on utopia of the seas

Giovanni’s on Utopia of the Seas

Utopia of the Seas has a new take on a Royal Caribbean classic, Giovanni’s Restaurant, This one is on Deck 12 aft. It offers classic Italian fare like pasta, the meatball gigante, pizza, osso bucco, and chicken parmesan. On my sailing, the cost was $55 per person but if you go for lunch, it’s only $25 per person. The osso bucco is not available at lunch, however.

Mason Jar debuted on Wonder of the Seas. I didn’t see any major changes to the Utopia Version. It’s southern fare, like sweet tea and fried chicken. There’s live music at night and the bar seems to do a good business. Both Giovannis and Mason Jar are pretty good, I would go again.

While there are smaller bars and lounges all over the ship, the most post popular is the Lime and Coconut. This bar is a staple across much of the Royal Caribbean fleet. But Utopia’s Lime and Coconut is 2 floors and situated in the heart of the pool district.

Utopia of the Seas Staterooms

Now that I have shared with you what Central Park and Boardwalk are all about, it’s a good time to discuss some staterooms on Utopia of the Seas. There are Boardwalk and Central Park view rooms, which are nearly as popular as their siblings across the hall— Oceanview Balconies.

On Oasis Class Ships, most rooms overlook the ocean, but some rooms overlook the interior parts of the ship and have natural light and fresh air. This is really what makes the Oasis Class and Icon Class ships so special.

Oceanview Balcony stateroom on "utopia of the seas"

Oceanview Balcony Stateroom - Utopia of the Seas

Rooms that overlook Central Park are pretty nice - they come in both Balcony and window-only versions. I have booked Central Park rooms before and really enjoyed the view. But Boardwalk Balcony rooms lack privacy. The sports deck is right above these rooms and fellow passengers can look down right into your room. And don’t expect much of a discount - they are only slightly less than oceanview balconies.

On this Utopia Cruise, My family and I had an Oceanview Balcony room. You’ll notice that the bed is closer to the balcony - which is typical of rooms that can sleep 2. Rooms that sleep 3 and 4 typically have the sofa bed nearest the balcony.

Utopia rooms feel light and modern, and the color palette makes them feel upscale. The bathrooms are smaller than I would like, especially the sink. I was constantly bumping into the walls. The shower is fine, but the shower door insists on closing by itself. So you have to towel off either inside the tiny shower or step out and drip water everywhere. For a ship of this size, I would expect larger bathrooms.

But if you prefer more space, you can upgrade to a suite. Just like Wonder of the Seas, there’s a suite-class neighborhood located on a restricted floor. They come with lounge access, a private pool, and a sundeck.

Pool and Recreation

Utopia of the Seas has an entire water park on Deck 15 Midship. There are 3 main pools including the family-friendly Beach Pool, plunge pools, a water playscape for kids, and several full-size water slides. What I like about the deck plan here is that families can stay nearby even if they have different interests. For example, the kids can do the water slides while the parents can hang out at the nearby Beach pool.

Pools on "utopia of the seas"

The Beach Pool on Utopia of the Seas.

The Perfect Storm Water Park features 3 separate slides including 2 dual racer slides where kids can see who went faster at the end. Then there’s Super Cell, it starts off like a normal waterslide and then shoots you into a large bowl.

For little ones, there’s Splash-away Bay, a huge water playground just for kids. There are water slides, water cannons, and of course, a huge bucket that dumps water all over everyone. There are loungers surrounding Splash-away Bay so parents can relax but still keep an eye on the kiddos while they play.

Inside Guide to FREE DINING at Walt Disney World 2025

A detailed look at the Disney World Free Dining Plan offers for 2025.

Enjoy a fantastic FREE dining plan when you purchase a nondiscounted minimum 3-night, 3-day package from the Walt Disney Travel Company, which includes accommodations at a select Disney Resorts Collection hotel along with a theme park ticket featuring the Park Hopper option.

This free Disney dining offer is valid for arrivals on most nights from May 27 to June 26, 2025, and from July 7 to August 6, 2025.

Additionally, packages may be available for longer lengths of stay, providing even greater flexibility for your vacation plans. The Disney dining plans feature an enticing selection of delicious meals and tasty snacks, allowing you to focus solely on enjoying the magic of your visit while eliminating the hassle of meal budgeting.

Embrace the convenience and ease of having your meals thoughtfully planned as you explore the enchanting parks and experience all the wonderful adventures that Disney has to offer.

As with past free dining plan offers, Disney is using a tiered system based on the resort category booked.

Free Disney Dining Plan

  • Disney Deluxe Resorts

  • Disney Deluxe Villas

Free Quick Service Dining Plan

  • Disney Moderate Resorts

  • Disney Value Resorts

The free dining offer excludes the following room types: 3-Bedroom Grand Villas, Cabins at Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Bungalows and 2-Bedroom Penthouses at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, and Suites at Disney Deluxe Resort hotels.

Disney World Free Dining Blackout Dates

I always recommend booking free dining offers early because they do sell out. There are numerous hidden blackout dates with the broad offer dates. Disney doesn’t share what those blackout dates are for two reasons: 1) there are too many to list and 2) they change all the time as hotels begin to book up.

See, Disney provides a broad range of dates to simplify things. But the offer is not wide-opened to every resort, room category, and date. The only way to see if free dining is being offered is to plug in your travel dates.

The other thing to be mindful of here is that Disney may limit how many free dining packages it’s going to release for a given resort, room category, or date. Again, we don’t have access to that insider information, but I am pretty good at keeping track of it. For example, let’s say Disney secretly allocates 10 rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort for free quick-service dining on the night of June 10. Once 10 people book free dining on June 10 at that resort, the free dining offer then becomes unavailable.

So in short, book as early as possible to get the best availability for free dining.

Sample Free Dining Package Prices for Walt Disney World

Let’s take a look at some of the packages I have prepared for clients using the free dining offer. Here’s a look at a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children ages 5 and 7). Keep in mind that children must order from a child menu when one is available. And it’s Disney, so there’s pretty much always one available.
